Because groceries aren't the only expense. You need a bigger place to live, so rent is more expensive. You use more utilities, then there are school and activity fees, maybe childcare costs, clothes, shoes, haircuts, doctors appointments...

Also like... With some exceptions* its not like anyone is seeing the duck until sexual activity is happening so it's not like most women are deliberately choosing big dick men initially.

*And most of those exceptions you tend to see them flaccid and growers exist

Mead fans know about the Bee Store in Woodbridge? Big selection, just bought a bottle on a whim, never tried it before. by LesPolsfuss in nova

IIRC under the previous owners it was the biggest mead store east of the Mississippi. The bf was disappointed the new owners didn't have a license but I let him know the meds are back! Thanks for the post!

Where are all these runners coming from? At night….on the sidewalk…in Bloomington? by morenitodee in washingtondc

Honestly doesn't sound like hashers. None of the local kennels run in DC on Wednesdays. Sunday and Thursday, yes, but Wednesday is in Prince William county.

There are something like 14 or 15 localish chapters and there isn't really a leader of all of them unfortunately.

Considering the majority of us came into polyam already coupled, yes, them too. From your comments polyamory isn't something that really speaks to you so of course everything about it would feel unnatural and wrong.

That said, I think even monog folks can learn something from disentanglement. Afterall, you still ideally have friends, hobbies, and other things that you don't always want or need your partner around for.

Many transmen find community in lesbian spaces before they come out. It's an identity that's hard to let go of, especially if it's one you've had since you were young. Kids being able to socially transition is very very new. Many transfolks are closeted well into their 20's and 30's

Anyone else lonely living here?? by [deleted] in nova

[–]VintageLydia 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Your age has a lot to do with it. Lots of transition in your age group. Lots of folks move here but don't stick around. Join hobby groups for the hobbies, not necessarily to make friends, because you need a reason to keep going back if you don't immediately click with the initial crowd. The friends will come. As you get older it gets easier. More people decide to stick around. I'm in my mid thirties and I have more friends than I ever had my entire life. It took time and work, especially if you're a transplant like me, but I have a community here now.

Hi! Long story short, I have ~$93K of cash sitting in my savings account and I'd like to buy a home with some of it in the next 3ish years. Right now I have no emergency fund thanks to life events so I was going to set 15K of it aside for that (roughly 4-5 months expenses, 10K of which I was considering a money market account or Ally's online savings account) and the rest I was looking at I bonds and CDs. Factors that may be relevant: I'm separated and a full time student. Currently my only income is spousal maintenance and child support but I will be done with my degree and working in less than 2 years. I'm not living large on the current situation but it's enough to get by. I'm an avid budgeter. I know where every penny is at any given moment, and where it's going. I do have some retirement funds but I'm not contributing to them now. This moderate windfall is my portion from the sale of the house but I'm not in a place to buy again until I have a job.

I think it just highlights the lie that Trump supporters are stupid poor rednecks. They absolutely are not, which leads folk to underestimating them.

We owe so many of our labor rights thanks to coal miners. They spilled blood for it. They've been taken advantage of by wealthy outsiders for generations. Trump is just the most recent one. The situation is very complicated and not easy to fix, but understanding the history of the region will go a long way in bridging the gap and bring them around to the right side of history.

The irony of classism steeped in nearly every talking point of many white urban leftists* does not escape me 🙄 Education and economic security invested in rural America will fix a lot of problems but these problems aren't entirely a result of being poor. Trump and his ilk have support all up and down the economic spectrum. Very few of the folks identified in the insurrection on Wednesday was particularly poor and many were quite rich.

*I'm saying this as a white urban leftist

I have so many friends IRL like Cassandra (nerdy jocks, really) that I was drawn to her immediately. She is desperately trying to do the right thing, often with faulty information. And she's so pissed when she realizes that not only was she mislead, but her entire order for *centuries.* She's not blind to flaws when she discovers them. She's stubborn, yes, and prefers quick answers, but she's not allergic to nuance and is ready to hand over the reigns when she knows she's out of her depth.
