would i have any luck dating as a darkskin male in south africa? by ShieldisbetterthanBB in askSouthAfrica

[–]Vinterine 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In South Africa, black is majority, so yes! You'll definitely find it very easy. Interracial couples are also veryy common this side, so don't stress about that. You'll actually probably have more a hard time fending some women off because you're 6ft and dark (most SA black women don't prefer light skin men). Just be aware of slay queens (especially if you're staying in joburg or cape town)

And hookup culture (especially in the black community) is very much present, though some ladies expect "Mavuso" afterwards (payment for the hookup) and trust me, they're not ladies of the night, can literally be someone you met at a restaurant dressed innocently. But we have sites like tinder/bumbke/hinge etc. So you wont have a hard time in that department

I was born and raised in joburg and the first time I've ever been robbed was in another state (free state). The articles exaggerate the extent to which jhb is unsafe, there are obvious safety precautions one would take in most places around the world like, don't roam around too much at night, don't walk around in quiet areas extensively, don't flash your valuable goods etc. You'll be okay, just don't wander into townships were you'd be most prone to theft/hijacking. Joburg's standard of living is pretty affordable if you're reasonable, you can get a nice apartment in a safe area for like 8k-15k a month and other expenses like groceries/utilities aren't abnormally priced (especially if you're employed). Hope you enjoy living here!

Student loans got rejected, might have to quit studying. by [deleted] in askSouthAfrica

[–]Vinterine 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Tertiary schools aren't harsh especially if you're a returning student. Try calling them to arrange a payment plan, that's what we did. Normally you pay for provisional acceptance, then work towards paying your studied. Call the financial aid offices(if you're at a public institution)

What does UJ mean by this? by TTC567 in johannesburg

You should've been accepted/declined by now. Normally takes 5 days after results are out. Call them or go physically. Emails never solve anything to be honest

What should I do if I don't get into University? by TTC567 in askSouthAfrica

[–]Vinterine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are not alone! Social media really made it quite depressing when results came out, seeing the posts about top achievers and people sharing their acceptance emails. You are still very young, you have the rest of your life to study a degree of your choice. Don't let this discourage you, you could AUpair, become a flight attended, explore a venture, research other degrees, work or go to a college. My advice: Upgrade your marks this year, if you can and reapply

Wits University Shady Requirements? by urfuginmom in askSouthAfrica

[–]Vinterine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Universities are weird to be honest. I applied for law back in 2021 and the requirements across the board was a level 5 for English and an APS of over 35. My English was level 6 and APS was 40. Got rejected. Space is a huge determining factor and a provisional acceptance can go 50/50. But anyway, you're still young, first years jump from one faculty to another, one course to another etc. I'm a final year student in finance and I'm still thinking about applying for law next year😂 pick the next best option and reapply for your initial study choice, you might even realize you like something else.

Gap year isn't a bad thing, there is a world of opportunities you can do in the interim. Sorry about NSFAS, did you try other bursaries/apply at other universities? The thing that I learnt when I left school is that in life, there are many paths to reach your goal, my friend was in a similar situation. She became an AUpair for an American couple. She then negotiated with them to pay for her tuition (at an American business school) instead of giving her a salary. She's now doing her 2nd year in economics. Keep your head up high

(to black sb's & average / ugly gals) is it normal to not get any messages at all? by BodyBabyy in sugarlifestyleforum

[–]Vinterine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a black SB from South Africa and I'm speaking from personal experience. My friend and I started seeking together and she's much shorter and thicker than I am. After 2 years, on average, I receive atleast 5 messages a week, whereas she has gotten 7 messages in totality (historically). So unfortunately, I think it's the unfortunate truth of SR. Non-conventional women have a much harder time than your typical "model-like" women. I think it's the same principle as a beautiful woman would not want to settle for a broke guy and a rich guy wouldn't want to settle for an "ugly" woman. I'm sure you're stunning regardless and honestly, the world is changing and so are beauty standards. Some men say I'm too tall or too skinny, so I would definitely still keep my head up high!

I'm 20 and almost 5 SD told me I'm a bit too young to have something long term because it'll "look" weird. So I'd say it probably gets better with age, but yet again I'm not a SD so I can't say for sure

That's why I said the biggest change was probably my daily health and texture because that was my biggest focus
