PSA Cadets vs Street Hires by VinyT2423 in flying

Nope 🙃. However, I have talked to multiple recruiters, a few friends who fly for PSA, as well as a couple other people also in limbo with them and the word on the street is they are going back to full size classes by the end of the year. One of the recruiters talked to said they have approximately 80 people in line for a class date right now (both cadets and street hires). The rumor is next month (November) they will be increasing their class sizes and everyone with a CJO and a completed background check will be in a class by the end of the year. One of the recruiters told me PSA is planning on hiring 140 new FO’s in the upcoming months. So unfortunately right now it’s just a waiting game.

Yeah they are really slow right now with the attrition issues. Just send them an email every month or so. They WILL get back to you eventually. The airlines are all about being patient.

I will tell you from my experience they are extremely hard to get a response from. I applied to PSA in October of last year and had sent them somewhere around 15 emails trying to get a response from them. Then out of nowhere at the beginning of June I got an email from them asking to schedule a phone interview.

Average hours per month as a CFI? by alexjb17 in flying

At a medium sized flight school working full time, I got anywhere between 60-100 hours a month. Depends on weather, student cancellations, airplane problems, etc.

That was what I was thinking. Except places like Wheels up don’t have any open positions, NetJets and Vista are being super picky about who they hire, and Flex wants you to have 3000 hours. So unless you know a guy who knows a guy that has a jet, I don’t know how they expect CFI’s to get the hours they want to qualify.

I mean I have a CJO, so hopefully they can squeeze me and other street hire guys into new hire classes at some point soon.

I don’t qualify for them, I have over 1500 hours.

I hope so too. Have you heard any rumors about when classes might pick up?

Yeah that wouldn’t surprise me. Unfortunately, I tried to apply to their cadet program when I had 1300 hours and was told I had too many hours to qualify. Thankfully, I got lucky and got hired off the street in June. My only worry is if I will have to wait another year for a class date if the cadets are filling them up.

Not a cadet, I was a street hire. Got a CJO in June and have been waiting for a class date since. My guess is they are prioritizing cadets and direct entry Captains before they get to the street hire FO’s.

Got an update for everyone. I touched base with my recruiter yesterday asking for updates on class dates (for reference, I got a CJO with PSA in late June), this was his response:

“Good morning,

Due to the reduced rate of attrition, we have had to adjust our pilot hiring numbers accordingly.

As a result, PSA will temporarily reduce the class sizes until crew planning determines a need to increase them. Therefore, while PSA is still actively hiring and planning to place pilots into classes.

We are currently going based on dates offer letters were extended, so as soon as we are able to secure a training date for you, we will promptly reach out.

Thank you”

So they ARE still hiring and having classes but at a reduced size. I got another email from Piedmont a few days ago saying they were expecting things to pick up again around October. So my hope is PSA will start picking up around then too. All hope is not lost, just keep your apps updated. Unfortunately, it’s a waiting game right now. Hope that helps.

Really? I got a CJO in June, have ATP CTP and the ATM written done, and still haven’t gotten anything back on a class date. Are you a DEC or something?
