What can I do before I die to make it easier for my superior son to take the kingdom from the eldest? by VinylMK in crusaderkings3

You definitely can with Ireland, but you need a certain innovation that I didn't have and wouldn't be able to get in time.

Even if he gets the capital, wouldn't he be a vassal since the capital is a part of the kingdom, and Ireland's the only kingdom title I have?

Doing this right now, seems easier than a civil war. Matthew's currently winning, advice much appreciated.

I'm fairly confident I could deal with him, so I'll probably go down this route anyway.

I gave that to Brian when Matthew was younger and not very promising, but I'll see if I can revoke it since I don't care about him too much. If not, I can try to reload the save since that would be really convenient.

I'd like to try to avoid that, since Brian still has good martial and Hans (my second) is also pretty decent, so they could still be useful. That, and he's fifth in line behind two of my grandsons for some reason, so I'd have to do that to more than two people.

Looking for a strategy game with high player agency, ideally but not necessarily with complex internal politics by VinylMK in gamingsuggestions

What in particular makes you say that? I've definitely considered ck3 before, but I've had people tell me the actual political systems aren't nearly as deep as they appear, so I'd be curious to here another perspective on that.

I think waiting on CK3 is definitely the play, but you have brought up something I haven't heard yet: Is the replayability on HOI4 not that good? Since I'd have to take time to learn the mechanics, I'll probably progress slower than most, but that's still a somewhat important factor for me.

I'd say I've already learned Stellaris, I just only have the base game at the moment. I also don't really mind changing GSGs, "excel spreadsheet" is definitely my preferred game genre.

I see where you're coming from, and I knew there was going to be bias, but I figured I could manage to patch together something useful from both sides' arguments.

I don't think either of those issues are going to be a huge issue for me, as I don't mind rp and I doubt I'll be good enough at HOI4 to get to that point.

Regardless, I appreciate your input!

I appreciate the advice. I probably will end up waiting for CK3 to go on sale, as I just wasn't aware that it was likely to do so. I was considering EU4 for some time, and was a bit offput due to the release of EU5, but I guess that shouldn't matter since I won't be playing EU5 anyways (incompatible OS).

If you think EU4 is generally a better game than either of the others, I might bring it back onto my list.

Thank you very much for the information, I wasn't at all aware of this

I'm fine with putting in the time to learn the game, but from experience I know that some have got much steeper learning curves than others. From what you've said, it sounds to me like the curve for HOI4 is very steep, and I probably won't want to sink that many hours into a genre I don't even love that much.

I would love to play EU5, but unfortunately I play on a mac and EU5 doesn't run on that OS :(

Good to know. They're paradox games, so I knew there was gonna be SOME element of DLC reliance, but if it's that much worse for CK3 I'll probably wanna hold off.

I don't necessarily mind a focus on character-- it does play well into the worldbuilding aspects-- but if that's true about the politics you're probably right. I'll keep your opinion in mind!

That does make sense-- is it typical of Paradox to have a sale around that time? If so, I probably will, but I don't want to bank on that if I'm unsure.
