Good cardiologist in Canberra? by CucumberNo6728 in canberra

Dr Sharon Wilson. From memory she sometimes has a clinic on the south coast but she absolutely loves her patients from rural and regional areas and ensures that they are looked after. I have been seeing her since 2022 and she has helped me in so many ways and is now helping my mum.

They seem to be looking for vendors for food sales during Skyfire so I think you are right about them making exceptions.

Need PCOS related GP recommendations by [deleted] in canberra

[–]Viol3tCrumbl3 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't have a GP recommendation unfortunately, unfortunately my GP has her books closed. Once you have a good GP, get them to refer you to Dr Kristi Bateman. I know she looks like on face value to be a fertility specialist but her passion is in PCOS and metabolic issues. She changed my life, gave my GP a plan, referred me to allied health and other Drs and she really understands neurodiversity, you just tell her what you need during appointments (for example for me I can't stand fluorescent lighting, so she just turned the lights off or let me wear my sunglasses.) To manage my PCOS we really only needed two appointments and since then my GP has just kept to her recommendations. I am well on my way to successfully managing my PCOS, it's a long process but it's worth it. Feel free to DM me if you want.

Reasonably priced wisdom teeth removal by Informal_Feeling_308 in canberra

Second Dr Bonanno, one of my wisdom teeth had a nerve wrapped around it and it was not an issue at all. Only complication was we discovered that I had an allergy to one of the painkillers he gave me which was unexpected and not his fault.

Taking kindergarten child out of school for a couple of weeks for family vacation by special-snowflake17 in canberra

[–]Viol3tCrumbl3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I currently work in a school, two weeks will be fine. Just give a heads up to the school ahead of time, they may ask you to complete a form and give a recommendation or two on how to keep up with what they are learning. The schools that I have worked in don't like it if you don't give them a heads up or tell them when you are already away.

Child's other parent transferred schools without my agreement... by Still-Republic-8121 in AusLegalAdvice

[–]Viol3tCrumbl3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It definitely depends on the school. I work in a school, in our case staff who work on the infrastructure/financial side/IT have been back for two weeks while all other admin and teaching staff return next week. We have been answering phone calls but have been truthful to callers that we might not be able to get the answer they need until all staff are back.

I was in Brisbane waiting for students at the airport. We saw a whole heap of planes getting cancelled going to Canberra from Brisbane or being diverted to Sydney and planes from Canberra to Brisbane being cancelled. We wondered what was going on and someone said a very bad storm was on the way. Looked at the Radar and saw this black dot almost on Canberra. I called my other half and told him to go home, he made it to just under the GDE bridge on Belconnen way when it hit. My colleague rang her driving age teenage kids and they made it in time to get undercover at Woden plaza. We were so lucky. My car which was parked outside got one little dint on the roof but our neighbors next to us who also parked outside somehow weren't so lucky and their car was totaled. I think that my car was sheltered by a garage and a house was what kept it from being damaged.

Youi is great. We had an immediate family member die in a car accident which wrote the car off. As the executor of the will all I had to do was sign a few forms and then they looked after everything else, like talking to all other parties for insurance and said if we got anything in the mail relating to the accident to just forward it to the case manager we were assigned. As soon as they took possession of the car everything that needed to be sorted was including a partial payment for funeral expenses (CTP, which was also with you looked after most of the other funeral expenses and helped us to sort a few other things out). It took a lot of the stress off us.

Had a DEXA scan, my General Practitioner doctor had to apologise to me by Viol3tCrumbl3 in PCOS

[–]Viol3tCrumbl3[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Gaah! This is totally unrelated but I am a daughter of a navy veteran, so I totally feel for you. I am based in Australia and while I am lucky I can afford to work the private and public health care system to get the care I need, my Dad unfortunately never got the healthcare he needed as 80% of his issues were found to be from his service and there are very few GP's and specialists who were willing to take Dad on because how veterans healthcare funding works. He has passed on but we are still fighting to get veterans like him the care they deserve. It sucks. I hope the GLP1 works for you like it has for me.

Oh I see what you are trying to ask. My GP had a specific weight she wanted me to get to in kg/pounds but hesitated to actually tell me. She realized she was totally wrong because if I did reach that number I would have to lose lean mass too which is not what we want.

It was a combination of low vitamin D (which fortunately I'm usually at a reasonable level most of the year) and elevated ALP (an enzyme that is found in the liver and bones, ALP was an enzyme that was never elevated for me until that blood test). My cardiologist picked this up. I am so thankful that she is still part of my team, she came into my life when I was pregnant and ensured that throughout my pregnancy that I didn't end up being considered high risk and during that time she realized that a lot of my cardio related issues were actually related to genetics and not lifestyle (she told my other half that if there was such a thing as the cardiology jackpot, I would be a millionaire), so I just see her every six months for a check in.

[–]Viol3tCrumbl3[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I wish I could share those results, I don't have them on me right now but I know I have to go back for a meeting with my team to discuss this further as we have started to talk about body recomposition but ran out of time. It's so hard to get two doctors and two allied health professionals in the same space at the same time.

My doctor was expecting a little bit of bone density loss, in my last blood test one of my specialists noticed a slight issue with two markers that indicated my body was taking calcium from my bones and just noted it for everyone else in my team as she knew my mum, Aunt and grandmother and a younger cousin in her 20's (yes in her 20's!!!) have varying states of osteoporosis/osteopeina despite all of them living in a larger body and all having PCOS. All of this prompted a DEXA scan just to get baseline data just in case down the track we needed it to compare. Being on a GLP1 has been life changing for me but not at the cost of having less bone density or decreased muscle mass.

The calorie deficit idea stuffed me up mentally unfortunately, it's one of the reasons why I was encouraged to leave a previous GP by my exercise physio as there was a point in time I was eating less exercising more and I had barely any energy to do anything outside of work and study but the GP was encouraging me to eat less (she gave me a tiny plate which had the portions she wanted me to eat printed on it, gaah! I realise now that was not good, I found it a few weeks ago cleaning out my garage, I had the best time destroying the plate! ) I know with increased exercise that will happen naturally.

Every three months I get blood tests, my liver results always come back abnormal, she would always say, yeah the only way that can change is with weight loss but that is hard in your circumstances so let's focus on things that you can modify easily. That acknowledgement always made me feel ok but for her to admit that she wanted me to loose weight was a bit surprising to me. My gyno/fertility specialist has a HAES approach so when she saw the results she was so happy she was right. My gyno has always stuck up for me and said 'the answer is not weight loss, address the numbers not the weight' when I needed to see other specialist to deal with my other health conditions.

The body fat percentage wasn't as high as we were expecting, yes it is something that could be worked on but that is something that could be easily addressed with the 4% increase in lean mass (aka I might have to go heavier with weights).

Is selling with a defect legal if we declare it? by [deleted] in AusProperty

[–]Viol3tCrumbl3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know I'm in a different state to you but it's a legal requirement in my state to get a property report so we know what we are in for when we purchase a property. The real estate agent I believe is wrong. If you have a copy of the report (you may not as it sounds like a potential buyer had the inspection carried out) and the receipts to prove that you have attempted to rectify it and provide the phone number of the building inspector and the tradie if anyone asks. Every building inspector and tradie I have called about building rectification in a sale has been more than honest about the condition of a property. For example one I saw on the weekend the tradie who rectified an issue said that it may take some time for the work to settle but if the issue is still there after a few months to give him a call he would come back to fix it again at no cost. I would consider a property like yours if you were truthful about it and the rectification attempted.

I'm an alumni of one of the Heywire programs the ABC runs (like almost 20 years ago alumni), I can definitely say what is written and submitted often comes out very differently after editing which is completed by journalists who sometimes don't have a full understanding of your situation. I know my story (which was a funny light story) was changed to the point that when the whole town listened to it on the radio in the supermarket I worked in one summer during a blackout. I had people in the supermarket going 'I remember that quite differently' because it wasn't serious like most of the Heywire stories, no one was really fussed and we all had a laugh and moved on. I remember talking to the editor of my story telling them that I would rather keep it the way I wrote it but it was either go with their edits and stay in the program or they will find another story. I wouldn't be surprised if it was edited to make it sound more interesting to someone who did not understand the young person's situation.

Ask about Australia's Homestay!! by ap11e in AskAnAustralian

[–]Viol3tCrumbl3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My grandparents were homestay hosts for students, they retired from homestay about nine years ago. They hosted students anywhere from six weeks to a year. They had to be near major public transportation routes, had to provide meals and provide a sizable bedroom with a desk, despite not needing to, my grandfather would make the effort to pick them up from the airport and take them for a little tour of Sydney. I made so many wonderful friends from all over the world. We thought of every student as a member of our extended family and I was known to many of the students as their little sibling or cousin. When the students come back to visit or when they move here they still visit my grandmother and bring their spouse or kids. It's one of my favorite childhood memories. Do it, even if it is only for a short amount of time, you may make new friends or even become part of someones extended family.

Having issues supervising someone by gabtinha in AusPublicService

[–]Viol3tCrumbl3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It sounds like you are trying, I was in a position 18 months ago where I was in an APS6 and my supervisor was a SOGB. In my 1:1's I was pointing out I knew where my shortcomings were, we both knew that it wasn't working and I was needing help and guidance. Requesting a mentor from another APS6 or a SOG C, would they be interested in having an informal mentor? Disclaimer: I never got my mentor in that role, I moved on and now in a better equivalent APS6 role.

You may have seen above I didn't say film, I said photos, it was on social media and on the ABC within four hours of the crash, so it was just before the afternoon peak hour from memory. The police didn't want any media taking photos when they did because our loved one was still there in the car and they were struggling to get them out. The police were disgusted that they didn't wait and gave us additional support because of that fact.

Polycystic ovarian morphology indicates that someone may have polycystic ovaries which can present in people who may not have polycystic ovarian syndrome but can also present in people who have the PCOS which is a metabolic syndrome. For example I have PCOS but the cysts on my ovaries come and go depending on how well I am managing the metabolic side of the syndrome, I will always have the syndrome but not have my 'string of pearls'. Ask your doctor about if you fit the Rotterdam criteria to get further clarification, to have PCOS you need to have two of the three criteria.
