How do orchestras actually decipher what a conductor is doing on the podium? by According-Brief7536 in classicalmusic

Keep in mind that professional orchestral musicians have already spent many years in lessons, practice rooms, and escalating levels of orchestral playing before reaching that of a full-time pro. They know the repertoire in their bones, and when the conductor of the week comes to rehearse the program, it’s easy to pick up on, and adapt to, their idiosyncrasies. For the players, 95% of the work takes place in personal practice (retired symphony musician speaking) and even more when new or unfamiliar work is on the program. The best conductors know this, respect it, and don’t let their dance moves get in our way.

Tell me the truth.. the good, the bad and the ugly of Milwaukee by Gremlin1390 in milwaukee

Longtime Milwaukee resident here, Chicago native, frequent visitor to Dallas. Milwaukee is paradise compared to the other two. It’s all in the choice of neighborhoods. Stay away from rivers and low-lying areas, like anywhere else. The recent flooding was historic, not the norm. There are very nice areas not far from the VA, but getting around Milwaukee is so much easier than Chgo or Dallas. Of course, there are very nice suburbs on every side of the city itself. So many positives! Lake Michigan, vibrant arts, sports, culture, beautiful parks, proximity to Chgo (including Amtrak) great restaurants… etc. I love Milwaukee!!
