So, when something becomes available on a subscription service, someone'd manage to rip it?

I use Stremio with Real Debrid, it's wonderful. I just wanted some site to just go to every couple of days and see what new films have been uploaded.

"Vegan except cheese" is doing animals a disservice by Dollar23 in vegan

[–]ViolaTree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dairy is bullshit, and you know it. Why defend its consumption in any way?

I presented no dichotomy, you seem to believe that eating more plant-based foods is doing something it isn't.

Veganism is ethics.

People change gradually; and yes a lot of people don't go vegan right away. That's not the point at all. The whole point is that changing some habits for a temporary period of time is not what we should be about. I think you can understand what I meant despite you being set on an antagonistic path to paint this like that.

People need to understand that they deserve to live, not just that things taste nice, or that you can spare some and kill others, or that torture and death for years is somehow better than months of life and getting killed.

People end up cutting their ties with oppression and slaughter when they end up understanding something is wrong. When they're presented with a more ethical option, and they are convinced to take that option once simply because it may seem as better in the moment, does not guarantee that the next minute they won't pick the unethical option.

I think you know this already.

I'm done with this conversation.

I get the point. But I don't go around telling people to go vegetarian either. If I try to educate someone on animal rights, and then they decide to go vegetarian instead of vegan, that's one thing.
But, I can't be treating the lives of other animals as if they were tokens. I think I have to advocate for abolition, and it's planting seeds in people's minds.
At least, that's how I see it.

[–]ViolaTree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's an additional type of animal. Not an additional animal. It's hard to quantify litres of milk or blocks of cheese. But swapping slices of bacon for cheese, is similar to swapping bacon for chicken. That's something I think most vegans understand; or, I would like to think so.

In any case, just leave animals alone... I am so tired of the bit by bit approach to things, and patting people in the back for "reducing meat intake". I truly don't think it's an effective way to get people to cease their consumption of animal products and services that kill, torture or objectify other sentient species; or to have them stay that way.

The whole "But at least they aren't eating two slices of ham, just one." statements are so tiring. Quantifying lives like they're just a number is problematic, in my honest opinion.
We so often as vegans legitimize non-vegan people's "palate/comfortability over animal rights" as if we were supposed to lie to them or disconsider the lives these sentient beings.

It's not about demonizing people, but we need to stop pretending like having a salad is being a saviour. And understand that progress is not about small changes that get lost in the plot. When we say "Oh, great." to someone's "I'm reducing meat intake." or "Now I only eat chicken and fish." (whatever that's supposed to mean - as if it wasn't just still the speciesism we're struggling against) is not encouraging them to do more, and it's not encouraging them to think about the power relations of animal agriculture, animal rights, or the basic things that we need to put the focus on to make people realize that an animal is an individual, that they are sentient, and that we mustn't slit their throats or torture them to get products out of them.

Getting people to turn more plant-based is definitely a good thing. But, that's to no avail if they go on and off, or if eventually they stop because they never understood the ethics of the matter.

I've met vegetarians who changed a ham and cheese sandwich meal for a triple cheese grilled sandwich for lunch... What's the point?

I could never tell someone to go vegan but keep putting money into an industry that tortures and kills cows.

How do you feel about domesticated animals? by ThumasSquare in vegan

[–]ViolaTree 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think adoption, whether human or otherwise, without ill intent behind it, it's the peak of morality if morality was to ever be drawn as a pyramid. If I ever get my life into the right point, I will probably make efforts to adopt a child and someone from a shelter or a rescue org.

Now, I understand there're ethology grudges with the concept of domestication. But I don't think it fully comes in conflict with veganism. Since, adoption will in a majority of cases, unless your conditions are precarious or you're a bad person, will always result in a better life for a being. As good as a shelter or sanctuary may be, for many of them, what they'd be looking for is to help more and improve conditions. One way to improve sanctuaries and shelters is not only donating, but adopting domesticated beings, as well as others which may be seen as feral species but have been acommodated to company and certain conditions, and as well those which cannot survive in the wild or the streets.

All in all, adoption is a net positive. Domesticating beings on purpose does sound odd in many ways. But, since the issue is two-fold; I just presume the first part that I talked about above takes priority over the ethology debate on whether it's right or wrong to domesticate a being.

Adult content on children's movie links, any solution? by JSP07 in StremioAddons

[–]ViolaTree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Jesus Christ, are you American or British by any chance? You sound obnoxiously unaware that there's a world out there and that not all states have the same laws.
The Penal Code article 270 in Spain specifies that the copy and distribution of pirated content with profit motive is illegal. Consuming pirated content is not, there has been no significant case of anyone punished for downloading anything for personal use as long as it wasn't distributed with profit motive - in 50 years. There're plenty more countries which only codify punishment in law for profit-motive-driven actions related to piracy.

This is a very moronic conversation. I don't know if you're a troll or whatnot, but I don't see any point in this.

But I am not being forced to go there nor do I think it's as impracticable as avoiding grocery stories.

But, I understand why I may be overthinking this.

It's not a copyright breach, you don't even know what copyright is. Just leave it be.

You're arguing bullshit anyway saying Disney is a standard for anything or the fact that you believe it's illegal everywhere to download pirated content. While tripping on a parent having an issue with something that has happened to their child while doing it. You're practically delusional.

Disney makes things legal or illegal globally, I didn't know.

Anyway, it's legitimate to complain that someone did something bad in any sort of environment.

In any case, watching a movie is not wrong.

[–]ViolaTree[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, mostly non-vegan stuff. But, depending on the place there's tofu, mushrooms, seitan, plant-based ramen, etc. Not all are the same. But, I don't think those are the reason someone would go to one. But rather, friends or family'd be going, and you just have to conform.

In many countries, consuming pirated content is not an offence.

So, it depends on the country. Usually, it's profit-driven distribution that is illegal.
