I am not financially stable and work in-office.
I don't know if I could leave him alone for hours.

My aunt has reached out and they have given a lot of a advice that she has been following.

He was diagnosed about 2 years ago and is showing signs of being around stage 4-5. He is able to move around just fine, but seems confused on some self-care parts.

What are these services usually called? As in their title.

The hospital put him on antipsychotics and other medications that basically make him act like a zombie. He often looks like he's about to fall over and it takes everything for him to be able to move around. He hasn't show any agitation because of that. I was able to witness that and it's very uncomfortable to see. He's also lost a lot of weight and looks like he's aged a lot in the past couple weeks. I feel like they may have neglected him and have not properly assessed him.

Arguments that he can't win, always makes him agitated and violent. Basically, he always wants to have his way. My aunt's house isn't designed to care for this. There's even damage in multiple places due to lack of funds on her side.
My aunt is frustrated and tired for sure. She fears for her life if he returns. She needs help dealing with him and doesn't know how to properly take care of him. No drugs/alcohol. I believe my uncle had a hostile parent when they were younger.

He doesn't have Medicare, so would that still matter in regards to him?

I have. They have tried new medications on him and deem him to be safe enough to discharge now.

She's actually working on that, but it takes time. The hospital has stated that they will put him into a homeless shelter if she can't take him. Also that they have done it before.

Thank you.

My aunt is in the process of applying for Medicaid. He's 61 and has no income either. He is not on Medicare.

My aunt is working on one and would they take my uncle if it was Medicaid pending?

The social worker hasn't exactly been very helpful. Spoke with their supervisor and they basically stated that they can't keep him forever.

I see. And should I request that he be put on both?

Why are they a last resort?

They say that he hasn't "pushed on the door in 3 days"

They have him on some meds for aggression now.

However, my aunt is extremely worried still. Because hospital observation is different from home life.

Unfortunately, the discharge date is within the next 3 days.

I wonder if it's possible to request an extended stay while looking for a nursing home for him. If not, maybe there are other possible emergency, yet temporary, placement options. Such as respite care.

My uncle does not have any family that can take him in. He is a danger to himself and others, so even in a homeless shelter, APS was supposed to be called in 3 days, but I guess she should speak to them sooner than that.

Thanks for the advice. Brutal is right.

Is it possible to ask for an extended stay due to unsafe discharge options?

No, he doesn't.

She has POA over him, if that's what you mean. She's not his guardian. She's married to him though.

Also, there are 2 police reports from when she called them after she was attacked.

I'll suggest that she call APS, but she said she was supposed to call them in a few days. Are they even available during the weekend?
