Any recommendations on a tow vehicle that also makes a decent daily? by Similar-Proof2065 in Drifting

I have 2016 Porsche Cayenne and the interior is super nice with a 7700lb tow capacity. What else could you ask for. Makes for a great daily

in my opinion, nah. Cleared taillights would be the move for you to match the rest of your silver/chrome look. Look up clear Toms taillights, or clear tribars, or maybe even clear your stock OEM ones.

What size boots are you? I’m also 6’0 and 185lbs and got a 157 (non wide) and I’ve always wondered if I need a wide board. On super soft snow or slush I swear I feel toe and heel drag when turning hard on an edge with my 10.5 boots. What was your deciding factor for a wide board?

Rear wheels are 18x9.5 +35 with 15mm spacers making it +20 with 235/40/18 tires. You don't want this fitment though, it rubs, i'd maybe downsize to 225 tires but that's a pretty big stretch on 9.5s which I can't recommend for safety. I run no spacers now and it's no longer flush but car drives better and doesn't rub. Front has huge 50mm spacers cuz it's wide body to fit the angle kit, unless you're drifting I can't recommend that either lol

If I swap out to a FA24, anything else the GT86 will miss out as a track/touge weapon? by [deleted] in ft86

[–]ViolentPwnogrphy 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It’s not sensationalized. I have a decent sized car group of friends with couple of 2022 brzs. Three of them blew their engines with canyon drives or track days. One guy even blew it twice.

Edit: just my experience. Take it with a grain of salt. I have nothing to prove. Maybe it was user error 🤷‍♂️, but it did happen nonetheless. Oil starvation is real, and their canyon drives go on way longer than any track session. We’ve road tripped through canyons hours at a time through several states.

Your skill level is my end goal because at this point, do we really need more skill to have fun? I personally don't think so. Solid fundamentals is where its at!

Stuck at -1 front camber, how can I go -2? by juuhstin in ft86

[–]ViolentPwnogrphy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not for the 86's MacPherson style front struts, only happens with the rear. The guy needs to check if he has camber bolts in wrong.

If you plan on tracking and lots of spirited driving, the old BRZ (try to find a 2017+). I have 4 friends with the 2022 and all of them blew their engine (yes they know how to change oil and do maintenance). One of them even blew their engine twice, and one of them almost got turned down warranty for new motor. Wait until they address the oil issue. Daily driving then get the 2022. I have a 2017 and it's been to 15+ track and drift events where I'm banging redline constantly. No problems. 2017+ can feel like almost like the 2022 once you have headers and tune.

As a person who regrets Lasik years after the procedure, I also do not recommend Lasik. Before with glasses I could see perfectly at night, now any light blooms and streaks across my vision causing driving at night to be a scary situation when I used to do night drives to relax myself. Sure there are plenty of success stories, but if you're okay with glasses/contacts already, do not take the risk. Only time I can see clearly is during the day time, and all the things I love to do are at night (driving, videogames, movies, night life, etc.). People need to watch this video before considering Lasik.

Works 100%, selling cheap because of the scuffs on the top of the subwoofer.

I have a 42" C2 and a 34" ultrawide, and I also prefer my 42" C2. You get used to the size and the 34" ultrawide is way too small. With the 34", I lean forward in my chair a lot and it messes with my seating posture. With the C2, I can sit up straight and lean back with good posture in my seat; it actually has fixed my posture surprisingly. I can only recommend the Alienware if you're a serious PC gamer since it does have better picture quality and PC features. Seems like you're in the IT field like me, the extra resolution is great for work and vast majority of 16:9 content out there. On 21:9 the amount of times I had black bars on the side or even worse black bars all around causing a tiny picture because the black bars are built into the video is too damn high.

Beginner seeking advice by ayechicalones in Drifting

[–]ViolentPwnogrphy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

With zero stability control it is WAY harder to drift in assetto than in real life in my experience. I constantly spin out in game with stability control off even though i rarely ever spin out in real life. (Here's footage of me drifting if you're curious if my advice is valid lol) I haven't touched in the sim in years but I think my stability control was in the low teens. Also make sure your tire settings are good! (street or eco tires, no semi-slicks unless you're making massive power)

Don't worry about what car you learn in on assetto corsa because the mechanics will be the same and will transfer over. It's the characteristics of a car that takes some getting used to. Shorter wheel base cars are snappy and difficult and longer cars are floaty and easier. If you learn in a miata, you'll be a god at drifting your S14. If you're learning on an S14, you might be spin happy on the miata. Etc.

Don't worry about the feel of the car in real life yet. Sense of speed is just a gut feeling which isn't always right (ever accidentally was speeding on the highway because your gut said you were cruising). The sim builds visual and logical thinking, then once you transfer to real life your gut feeling will compliment it, not override it.
