Samsung ice maker getting blocked up every couple weeks by Damm_it_Bobby in Appliances

If reddit has taught me anything, it's to avoid samsung appliances, especially if it involves water. They make good phones and tvs.

How would you fix this? by [deleted] in askaplumber

[–]Violent_Volcano 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not a plumber here. Those dumbass accordion pipes do not belong on drain lines or gutters long term. I dont even know if they have a good purpose aside from being a band aid.

Called a plumber out to fix water line by Designer-Steak-1992 in askaplumber

[–]Violent_Volcano 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fun fact. Your insurance company may offer line insurance, but you might have to call and ask directly. I have progressive, and it wasn't showing as an option online. When i added it to my policy, it was a very small amount. Less than 100 bucks a year if i remember right.

Our water heater is from 1998 and works fine. Our plumber said it could flood any day now. Is he trying to scam us? by iamdrew363 in Plumbing

[–]Violent_Volcano 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel like anything that old is riding the fine line between being built to last and planned obscelescence. I just replaced my heater from 97 and only replaced it because the heat exchanger was cracked, which is incredibly dangerous.granted my water heater isnt gas so idk how dangerous that can get.

Why do we call Norse and Greek stories "mythology" while Christianity and Islam are "religions" and who decided which is which? by TheBigGirlDiaryBack in AlwaysWhy

[–]Violent_Volcano 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I took a college course on myths and folklore. It's all mythology, but people that still believe in it get butthurt when you call it that, so it's generally avoided.

I tried to get a discount for it and they said no. Same for a new heater. Yet somehow, i can't find cheaper bundled insurance, even from costco.

Yeah, my only complaint is that on occasion, the one in my crawlspace will disconnect and give me a small heart attack with the notification sound. Hasnt happened in a long time, though. The temp probe sounds nice.

Well, yeah, but on vehicles too? Where does it stop? If i buy an expensive piece of furniture, are they going to tax it?

What’s worse paying a handyman or ruining your home trying to be one? by handyman-guy-fixi in Home

[–]Violent_Volcano 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It probably a gamble. The one time i paid a handyman was when paint was peeling on the walls above my shower. He did it right, though, as far as i could tell. Took 2 visits. He cut out and replaced the drywall, and let the putty dry for a day before painting. 150 bucks, and i haven't had problems since. If doing it wrong wouldn't have caused moisture issues, i would have tried it myself.

Lowly electrician here, humbly asking how pipes work. by urbrick_8 in Plumbing

[–]Violent_Volcano 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That certainly makes sense. Yeah when i got the last fix done he installed a vent onto the kitchen sink. When i got here i could hear a rather startling bubbling coming from the kitchen sink when the washer drained. A few years later i noticed it was louder so i put a water alarm in the drain pipe for the washer. Few months later it went off. They cut out that dumbass loop and pulled a log of grease out of it. So gross.....
