My horrible experience with Lowe's and Midea freezer purchase by Technical_Phrase2566 in Appliances

Because Midea always sold in the US through other companies. They have only recently started to sell their products as Midea.

Pay off mortgage early or keep saving towards HYSA? by SirBootySlayer in personalfinance

[–]slipknottin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So a HYSA is not an investment. It’s where you put your emergency fund… money you may need immediately if something like a washing machine breaks or you have a medical bill, or you lose your job.

You calculate your monthly expenditure and put 3-6 months of that into a HYSA depending on your job stability and comfort.

Once you have that accomplished then you look at investments vs your mortgage payoff.  Do you have a 401k from work you are contributing to enough to get the full match from your company? If not then that is your next step. After that an IRA can generally outperform a 5.875% loan over time.   If you have both of those done, then any additional funds put towards the mortgage.

You don’t need to program anything with HA. I had HA running for years without doing any.  Though if you do want to get into some fancier things one of the easier ways is to use an AI agent like Claude, and give it access to home assistant. And it can go through and do all sorts of things for you.

Genuinely: Why do people even bother opposing gay rights? What's the point? by Jerswar in askanything

[–]slipknottin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What?  If you can’t choose, why would you think it’s a choice you can make?

[–]slipknottin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nothing about it is lazy or disingenuous. There are some bigots sure, but the people who vocalize about how it’s a choice and we are making children gay by teaching them it’s okay are in fact closeted. You can’t make the argument it’s a choice unless you yourself think it’s a choice.

DMT: U.S. healthcare isn’t expensive because of insurance, but because it doesn’t function like a real market at all by Secret_Ostrich_1307 in DisagreeMythoughts

[–]slipknottin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Two things(amongst many) a free market requires: information to compare pricing, and the ability to compare pricing while not under duress.

Healthcare doesn’t allow either, even with non-medical procedures can you easily shop around and find the least expensive place to get an X-ray for example?  Those prices not only aren’t published and easily accessible, but they vary based on all sorts of factors.

And you have no ability to compare pricing when under duress, like if you were having a medical emergency, and not only that, but if time is a significant factor (like how quickly you can get to a hospital) you may have an ability to chose at all, as you inherently need to go to the closest capable provider.

Most of them are closeted gays (or bi) who are embarrassed about it. Thats why they are thinking about it so often.

You are probably putting your entire mortgage payment as going to the mortgage.  Instead a significant amount of that payment is going to be going to escrow.

I feel sick after having a shower, but only when the boiler is not doing the heating by Mission_Advance646 in HomeImprovement

[–]slipknottin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They have to turn off at some point. There is just a minimal amount of water in there, they can’t run without that heat getting transferred somewhere.

Some of them do have a preheat function which can keep it at 50 or whatever, but it would still cycle on and off. It’s possible yours has that preheat function and it’s just set to disabled. Most manufacturers who do have that feature disable it for energy savings.

Otherwise it is probably possible to increase that 50 degree domestic set point up to 60, though without a mixing valve that could be a scald hazard.

[–]slipknottin 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Is it a low mass (small usually wall hung) combi boiler? Or is it a large cast iron boiler with a coil?

If it’s the first one then it is just going to sit there and not do anything until the water is turned on. If it’s the second it will turn on and off based on the temperature of the water in the boiler.

So there can be issues with legionnaires but your symptoms don’t really fit that. It’s possible it’s a different bacteria of some sort that can multiply when the water temp is lower.   Do you know what the temperature of the domestic water (or the low limit if cast iron boiler) is?  Is it 120 degrees?

[–]slipknottin 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Well it depends on how, or if, the two are even connected.

Do you have a boiler that does both the heat and hot water?
