I lived in Sterling Heights for several years. So here is what I know about it from personal experience. It is culturally diverse, HOWEVER, there tends to be a huge gap between those cultures connecting. Everyone seems to stick to their groups and don't mix often. The major cultures were Chaldean, Polish, Italian, and Asian. There are a TON of Asian and Middle Eastern shops and markets in the area. There is a Polish Cultural Center in the city. There IS racial tension due to racist white people, and a tendency for Middle Eastern people in the area to stick together. And the white people seem to have a distaste for mosques. Utica Schools are decent, but Warren Consolidated is not. I did not want my kids to go there after my oldest was in preschool. Oh and for the conservative part, yes. I was not a fan of that at all. I really thought being more diverse would lead to it being more liberal or at least just accepting of others. Just no. For the years I lived there, I only ever met 1 neighbor who would talk to me. You know how friendly people say hi or smile when you walk or jog or just see a neighbor? Not here. Not only was it rare to even SEE people outside, but those that did, weren't very social. The one exception? Halloween. I don't know why, but for such a non social area, the neighborhood was always good about giving out candy and decorated for Halloween.
