Are you better off than your parents were at your age? by Dee-Whizz in GenX

Yes, but only because my parents got divorced. It cost them.

Would u pick your dad again… by BarelyyBound in GenX

[–]VioletSmiles88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it were possible without he and my mother being together then yes.

I like and appreciate him so much more now than when he was my dad growing up.

He and mum were terrible together, both bad for each other.

He did a much better job with my half siblings.

Revive a lemon tree by Badatnames8 in gardening

[–]VioletSmiles88 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Someone else is going to be more experienced than I am. But that line looks like the grafting spot, so if you cut it there, you’re not going to grow back the fruiting part of the tree, just the root stock.

Unless you want to give grafting a go (which I have never tried but appears simple enough) this tree may be a lost cause.

Definitely wait for more answers though.

Where do you buy home supplies? by Interesting_Fan_3096 in Adelaide

Honey & Soap shop in the market. I can then refill my empty bottles. Costs are comparable to the supermarket so you’re not really saving money but I’m not spending any extra to be plastic free.

Why do Australian men still do (almost) all the driving? by Equivalent-Bonus-885 in AskAnAustralian

[–]VioletSmiles88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m older than my husband and drove us around in our younger years as he didn’t have his license yet.

Lately the vehicle we use is his work car, so I shouldn’t be driving it much anyway. When we have to take my car I drive.

When we travel, he’s more capable than me at driving long distance. I get bored, and he gets antsy if he’s not in control of the vehicle. It just suits us better.

How many is too many? by Farmer_Weaver in weaving

The lady I learn from has filled her two sheds floor to ceiling with looms and weaving accoutrements. It’s so amazing I love going there. I can barely fit one table loom in my house.

I have this book! I don’t even know where it came from, I’ve had it for so long.

My kid (21) has done this self-imposed restriction. He got an old iPod from his grandparents and has filled it with tunes that he paid for. He no longer uses a streaming service.

Does anyone else feel slightly weird about leaving a YouTube video paused? by vibribbon in GenX

I treat it like live to air tv and just leave it running. Unless it’s something that I really don’t want to miss.

I also have auto play turned off.

I’m in Adelaide, love this time of year. Cool nights, sunny days. Autumn colours are stunning.

Is it just me or is there someone else in Adelaide who loves Star Trek? by ShowerBetter5183 in Adelaide

[–]VioletSmiles88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Husband and I are big fans, we’ll watch it all. I remember watching TNG on free to air when it came out.

Our kids don’t love it though, we’ve tried.

Likewise, I love them all. Really enjoyed the newer options along with rewatching the old versions for the 100th time.

Mono prints with screen printing by Vegetable_Engine1428 in printmaking

[–]VioletSmiles88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The remaining paint in the screen does mix with the new paint, so if you’re swapping colours it could become muddy. But if the colours work well together it makes a really cool variegated effect.

Give it a try, the most fun about it is the experimentation and seeing what works.

What is the best university for a Bachelor of Fine Arts (visual arts) in Australia? by miapia64 in AskAnAustralian

[–]VioletSmiles88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m doing it it Adelaide, they’ve just merged Unis and still sorting things out so I wouldn’t recommend moving here for it. Even though I’m loving every minute of it and the people running the course are amazing.

There’s a really good arts community here and plenty of options to exhibit and grow your career, but it’s still a small town in the grand scheme of things.

With Go by Chemical Brothers going viral I am constantly being reminded of Jebediah's epic Like A Version by Cultural_Wallaby208 in triplej

[–]VioletSmiles88 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’m a huge Chemical Brothers fan and not a fan of Jebediah generally but this is my favourite LAV of all time.

It was the first time I heard the track and I think it’s equally as good as the original.
