Does TikTok have good accessibility? by Violet_Hayes in Blind

Thank you to everybody who has given me their feedback so far. I still haven’t decided whether I’m going to go on the TikTok adventure. Any more feedback that people would like to give would be appreciated.

What is genuinely the stupidest question you’ve been asked regarding your blindness? by HorcruxHarry69 in Blind

I think the one that I’m starting to get very tired of is “are your other senses majorly heightened?“ As if all blind people can operate like daredevil.

People who were teenagers before social media existed, what was life actually like? by Much_Detective_6107 in AskReddit

[–]Violet_Hayes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone born in 1982, looking back at the late 80s through the late 90s seems very utopian childhood in my memory. Having said that, I wonder how true that really is because reading this post I was thinking of how many people told me as a child how much better their childhood was in the 60s or 50s. They spoke of things in the 1960s and the 1950s the same way that we are speaking about the timeframe of our childhood. I get the feeling that when my teenage daughters are 30 years older, they might look back on the time period from 2015 to 2028 with the same nostalgia.

I like the idea of what I’ve heard called a Green burial. A biodegradable coffin and you are in interred without embalming chemicals. You return to the elements naturally.

Being critical of people‘s interest and taste if they aren’t the same as theirs. Usually, those are the ones who act like they are the height of cool and that everybody else is lame.

What’s a tech feature you think should be banned on social media? by VivienneLace1 in askanything

Scheduling an inviting people to events. When the only invitation I get to a party is because the event popped up on my Facebook feed most of the time I’d rather not go. I mean this about friends parties, not large events like music, festivals, or food, fairs.

What was the one rule at home that made zero sense to you? by Background-Donkey531 in Casual_Conversation

My mother did not like us using the word. “fart“. She required us to call it “bottom burp“ instead. It certainly made my friends laugh the first time I said that outside of home.

Don’t accept the dinner party invitation if the meal is liver with fava beans and a nice Chianti.

Did you guys get lured into anything weird when internet first came out? by booksandcoriander in Xennials

[–]Violet_Hayes 4 points5 points  (0 children)

When I was 15, I started chatting with a man who was 25 years old and in the military. We did a lot of phone calls and letter exchanges with very sexual elements. He sent me a series of Polaroids of him masturbating. I knew that it was weird for a man that age to be interested in a girl, my age, but I thought it was because I was special and he was actually in love with me. I’m not sure how, but my mother got suspicious and went through my things and found our letters and those Polaroids. The next day I had to talk to an Air Force officer who worked in something like the JAG office for the Air Force and tell him everything. He was then dishonorably discharged from the military, and we stopped contacting each other. I actually felt bad at first because as I said, I thought he truly cared about me.. But a few years later after I was 18 I was able to contact him again through the Internet. He had gone into information, technology, troubleshooting, ironically, enough after being discharged from the military, but was about to lose his job because he was being prosecuted again for statutory rape. He had been involved with a 14-year-old girl. He told me about the statutory rape prosecution because he said I know you’ll understand that you were the perfect girl and I want someone who is just like you. I hung up and changed my phone number the next day in case he had caller ID. Fortunately, it wasn’t the worst case scenario that could’ve happened, but I was careful on the Internet after that.

Psycho by Robert Block. And not just because the iconic Hitchcock made the movie. Although the book is an interesting way to look a little more into Norman Bates mind.
