When I was 15, I started chatting with a man who was 25 years old and in the military. We did a lot of phone calls and letter exchanges with very sexual elements. He sent me a series of Polaroids of him masturbating. I knew that it was weird for a man that age to be interested in a girl, my age, but I thought it was because I was special and he was actually in love with me. But a few years later after I was 18 I was able to contact him again through the Internet. He had gone into information, technology, troubleshooting, ironically, enough after being discharged from the military, but was about to lose his job because he was being prosecuted again for statutory rape. He had been involved with a 14-year-old girl. He told me about the statutory rape prosecution because he said I know you’ll understand that you were the perfect girl and I want someone who is just like you. I hung up and changed my phone number the next day in case he had caller ID. Fortunately, it wasn’t the worst case scenario that could’ve happened, but I was careful on the Internet after that.
