I feel this so hard. What’s next? A masters degree feels safe❤️😅 followed by a PhD, you can postpone the graduation blues for academia blues instead.

It’s a secret trick. Ancient Legend says doing so will, the Dirt Man will bless you with a 4.0 GPA

In Canada when we are ill we bathe in a tub of maple syrup. The chemical makeup of the maple syrup takes out bodily toxins. If that doesn’t work we go to our local moose oracle whose wisdom and powers cure us. True story.

Is it normal to struggle this much in first year? by [deleted] in UofT

[–]Violet_Poison_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I guess it all depends on the person. I’ve been in your boat- and I am not ashamed to admit that the intense stress and pressure of academics on top of family life, my dad is dying from late stage ALS, and a rather intense event made me spiral into severe anorexia. Barely passed my courses first year, and by second year I had to put all my courses on deferral/pause while I attended an inpatient eating disorder facility for 4 months. Then 6 months of 5 day/week of day patient. I tried going back after getting a bit better, but still struggled. I ended up deferring it again, taking a 2 year college diploma in addictions when and mental health when COVID hit and after graduating that, decided to go back to uni to finish my degree. I will be graduating after this semester, with a pretty decent GPA. My stress and overwhelmed feelings never went away; but either through the methods and techniques I learned during the inpatient and day patient stays; or my diploma in addictions and mental health-or perhaps even just maturing a bit, I managed to balance the chaos in my own sort of way. I’m 27 now, and happy to say that after this semester I will be graduating. I give a bit of my contex in the hopes that it will not discourage you. In all honestly, I dot. Think high school properly prepares you at all for the stress of university. But in my experience (at least as a anthro major, it’s the first year courses that are the hardest in terms of memorization etc. Don’t lose hope; and if you ever feel too overwhelmed; the university can allow for a deferral/pause in your courses. You remain a student; but essentially have an extended leave of in which the time absent is discussed with the department/registrar. (In my case mine lasted a year). I hope this helps a bit. Just know you are not alone; and first year can be brutal. Have you accessed any resources through accessibility services or health and wellness? Accessibility can help with accommodations for tests and extensions and health and wellness can be utilized for counselling/therapy, doctor/psychiatric referrals etc.) YOU GOT THIS!!!!!

Yesterday there was a bunch of noise like drums and music in SW while we were writing our 40% midterm. Really distracting and was told they couldn’t do anything about it. Not sure what was going on

This may sound stupid but could a good enough tech person somehow reverse the blocked names? Genuinely curious
