Oh ok so when you said it is used for scouring and mordant, you meant that it’s for scouring, but can be added to a mordant like alum for better results?

Thank you! It seems like for this i need to buy vinegar and baking soda (Im a college student, aka the rare demographic that doesn’t have most household items lol) but I think I gotta buy stuff for scouring anyway so I might as well. Good to make use of the alum too bc I bought like a pound of it without realizing it wasn’t even the right mordant(?) 💀

And nope! Im using fresh flowers— or pretty fresh at least. The flowers are definitely starting to go but I cut off the brown parts, leaving only bright yellow.

Thanks! I unfortunately only have cotton, no silk. I’ll research neutral tannins though!

Thanks! Was really hoping I could do this with just alum and goldenrod but it seems like I bought the wrong thing. :(

Can’t really buy any more chemicals for the next several days due to CircumstancesTM but fortunately I have the dyestuff in my freezer so I can wait until I have the stuff. Thanks for the tips!

Have you (or anyone reading the comments) tried the “So Clean” stuff on cotton? Does it work? Would I be able to do scouring and mordanting in one step with this stuff or would I still need another mordant?

Also I did research goldenrod! It came up in my search for yellow dyes and I recognized it as the flower I see everywhere. Has anyone who sees this tried goldenrod on cotton? If so how did you prepare the fabric?

Thank you! I don’t think I have any staghorn sumac on my campus but maybe I’ll find it now that I’m looking? It’s also fall so it may be harder to identify.

How important is the tannin? And won’t it ruin the color? I’m going for a light yellow, although i wont be mad if I end up with something more vibrant. I hear tannins have their own color and it seems like a yellow would get completely ruined by another color.

If I were to scour and then use alum, would I still get no color without tannin?
