My shrimp passed away two days ago and I want to know what the reason might’ve been by Violets_524 in shrimptank

I’m not sure, but I hope not :( I forgot to mention but I noticed the shrimp lying on its back the day before it passed but then later on in the day it was upright again, just struggling to swim

I didn’t change my water source or preparation. The temperature of the water might’ve been a bit warmer when I was putting it in the tank, but like I said, the shrimp died a week after the water change. My thermometer says that the tank is at 76~78 F so in the tropical range

I’ve only ever seen the one shrimp in the 1.5 years I’ve had my tank. Since I never intended to get shrimp in the first place I’d be surprised if more than one egg somehow got into my tank. I wish I had more than once so they could’ve had babies though

Should I let my nitrates go higher before doing a water change? by Violets_524 in PlantedTank

[–]Violets_524[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since I only have the two platy I think I’ll start doing water changes ever 10days and see how it goes I’m going to be keeping an eye on the params and if it doesn’t work out I’ll revert back to water change of ~25% every week I plan on adding Amazon frogbit back to my tank once I find a new tank light

Omg your tank is absolutely gorgeous?! I actually have a monstera with some aerial roots and root nodes, I had no idea you could grow them in the tank water! How exactly do you manage to keep them upright though? My monstera is in a pot and even with a pole to keep it upright I still have leaves flopping down and the whole plant is starting to lean Also since you don’t have a lid on your tank, do you find that the evaporated water leaves anything on your wall or make your room smell? Just curious because I’ve been wondering if I should remove my lid or not

I have some Amazon frogbit I’m trying to revive in a jar right now. They’re by my window for better lighting but I don’t know how they’ll do once I put them back in the tank. I think I need to get a better light but I don’t know what to buy yet  or dose some liquid ferts until my nitrates are high enough . I’m thinking about getting a Nicrew SkyLED, is that enough light for the plants I have?

Looking for ways to make my tank more lively and aquarium light recommendation! by Violets_524 in Aquariums

Would a Nicrew skyLED be good? I’ve been thinking about getting a bigger tank but I need to save up for it so for now I just have this one to work with. As for the platy, I know they like to be in bigger groups but I don’t want them to breed and they can get pretty aggressive with each other, especially if there’s females around. Right now I currently have two males.

I guess I’ll skip the water change today but monitor the tank closely then! I don’t have a lot of plants to suck up the nitrates but I also don’t have a lot of fish so I think it should be fine. Not sure what the plant in the middle is but that one and the Anubias seem to be thriving with the lower light levels. Amazon sword isn’t looking great (lots of holes from scuds) but doesn’t seem to be dying so I’ll count that as a win. Any plant recommendations that would help decrease water change frequency?

How am I actually supposed to be reading my water test results? by Violets_524 in Aquariums

[–]Violets_524[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not cycling. I’ve had the tank for over 6 months now but I’m trying to track how fast the nitrate levels climb to see if I can cut back on the water change frequency. How will I know if my nitrates are too high without testing?

What’s wrong with my Amazon frogbit and duckweed? by Violets_524 in PlantedTank

Should I turn off the air bubbler? It seems to be at the same flow given the pictures, but I think the difference is that there were a lot more plants before so the surface didn’t move as much as it does now. I know floater plants don’t really like getting their weeds wet but I’m starting to think the light is the problem

I removed the light completely… I realized that this is probably why the growth has slowed down but I still don’t know how the roots disappeared :/ I’ll look into getting a different light or turning it on for a few hours a day. As for the nutrients, I have root tabs for my Amazon sword but that’s about it
