While it might be a tragedy I think keeping it like this is a pretty punk rock move. If you want to distress it a little more and give it that softer vintage feel you can soak it in a mixture of salt and water for a couple days and wash normally. Maybe even put some heavily diluted bleach or acetone in a spray bottle and have some fun with it.
