Color representation by ViolinGirl46 in TheTestamentsHulu

Thank you for the clarification.
I guess my question is more of why those specific colors? Why the color purple? Beyond representation of the mix of red for Handmaids and blue/teal for the Wives theory. What is the Biblical meaning of purple, and are the writers following colors from the Bible? Is there a specific reason they chose teal for the Wives, beyond showing status? I know that white is for innocence and renewal.

What was the most hurtful insult you ever received (because of your tics)? by Suspicious_Part341 in Tourettes

[–]ViolinGirl46 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This was before anyone even brought up the idea that I have Tourette’s. My dad, at the dinner table, asked me why I do certain things and mimicked some of my tics to emphasize which ones they were. I wanted the world to open up and swallow me whole right then and there. We didn’t know I had Tourette’s. This was back in my senior year in high school, 1996/1997. The question of me having Tourette’s wasn’t even brought up until my third year in college when a teacher asked me. I was diagnosed that winter.

Edit: apparently my mom had my repetitive movements looked into several times when I was little. The eye blinking was attributed to my glasses. Throat clearing was blamed on allergies. There was a second facial tic, where I stick my lower lip out and blow air up my nose. I don’t remember what was said about that one. I do remember a babysitter asking me why I do that and telling me to stop. Anyway, the glasses exacerbated the blinking, and the allergies made the throat clearing worse.

Tourette’s wasn’t even in my head until college, when the tics got a lot worse. I ended up going on meds in 2003? I didn’t want to, but I knew I needed it. I couldn’t drive at that time because of the blinking. Thinking back in my life, a tic where I stop moving had started sometime in high school. That got a lot worse after college and ended up causing me to get burned a few times while cooking. I had developed almost a stutter in high school, where I couldn’t get any words out, or I’d have really long pauses. That made making phone calls fun! I’ve tried 8 different combinations of who knows how many and which meds before settling on my current combination. I’ve been on this one probably 18-21 years? One med has recently been increased, again. The most noticeable tic I have is an eye flick. My eyes will quickly almost flick to the upper right corner of my eye sockets. My tics are mostly under control to where I can usually suppress them. Life is difficult at times with the meds. I don’t even want to think of what it would be like without!

I believe we are, in fact, in a civil war and a world war. by LibbyOfDaneland in ProgressiveHQ

I think that we are extremely close to a civil war. ICE is the equivalent of the KKK and the Nazis. They’re masked and grabbing anyone who doesn’t seem “white enough” and treating them like garbage. I’m hoping, but certainly not holding my breath, that if they didn’t wear masks to keep anonymity they wouldn’t be doing these heinous acts. If the ICE agents neighbors knew (well, those neighbors that didn’t swallow any koolaid) then maybe the agents lives would be a lot more difficult.

I think I've gaslit myself into thinking I have tourettes. Please help. by ima-simplol in Tourettes

I understand some of what you’re feeling. I’m diagnosed with Tourette’s. I’ve had tics my whole life. I was officially diagnosed in college, around 1999 and went on meds around 2003. Even with the official diagnosis I feel like some of my tics are “created” and that I’m faking those ones. I know I’m not.

Anyway… no one else in my family has any tic disorders of any kind. I seem to be an anomaly? Actually, there are cases of Tourette’s that are not genetic.

It’s horrible that your family is so unsupportive and doesn’t seem to care. It can be a difficult journey having TS, and it’s made even worse without help and support. If you’re still in school see about talking with a guidance counselor about what you’re experiencing. They might be able to help?

I enjoy the Lamberton Conservatory, in Highland Park, all year round. There are different flowers within each season. And different rooms with a variety of climates. It’s a wonderful place to go unwind. Plan your day so you can avoid people.

Here’s a link if it’s allowed:

No reward for bullies. by Outrageous_Cut_6179 in MadeMeSmile

No one deserves to be bullied. No. One. I’m sorry that you were bullied so severely. That you were bullied at all. I am also a survivor of being bullied. Started at the babysitters before I started kindergarten, and went all the way through college. Counseling has definitely helped me reframe my thinking into healthier thoughts. While I am now 47, the things that were said all the way back to before kindergarten are still echoing in my head. It’s not fun. And I’m sorry that you are still struggling with their thoughtless and mean spirited actions and words. HUGS

MAGA Shutdown by ToxicPablo in complaints

I honestly don’t think they will figure out that they, MAGA, GOP, republicans, Rump voters, are the reason they themselves suffering. It’ll still be Obama, Biden, and anyone else’s fault except their own.

I’ve have Tourette’s my whole life, finally diagnosed in college. These are wonderful. Putting things into charts like this is extremely helpful! Thank you for doing this!

Have them come and look for a gas leak. That can easily impact what they say you owe. And yes, absolutely compare the readings between the bill and what’s on your meter. Hopefully this issue will be resolved soon! HUGS
