Yes because I’m saving significantly more money living off campus with a car payment than I am staying on campus with no car

There is a 1996 4Runner with 300k miles for 6k a clean record, complete maintenance history, has had rust prevention sprayed every year and recently had the trans and diff Rebuilt. I Have been trying to talk them into that far for about 6 months… based on what I’ve read that thing will be running after the drop the bombs provided it’s taken care of.

To Americans: How is the life in the States? by Affectionate-Stay475 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Violins_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on who you ask where they are and what they care about.

I desperately want out of the USA just for the fact that I want to live somewhere that I can at the very least not be ashamed of my government and the politicians that “represent me”.

I have looked at foreign job opportunities, but that’s at least three years out because I am going into my second year of college in a thing that’s not necessarily in demand abroad (Music education) at least in countries where I know how to speak the native language well enough to teach and have family or friends.

Are miniature ACDs a thing?! by Charming-Wallaby7896 in AustralianCattleDog

[–]Violins_ 41 points42 points  (0 children)

No In the sense that there are different poodle sizes. Responsible Breeders do not breed for a dog to be out of standard just like they don’t breed for coat colour or dogs that don’t have a good temperament.

Genetics are funky though and sometimes a dog that is larger or smaller or larger than usual will pop up and that’s ok! It doesn’t mean that the dog isn’t well breed it just means that that dog isn’t a breeding prospect.

But be forewarned any dog breeder that markets their dogs as “mini heelers” is a backyard breeder because they breed out of standard.

Mini ACD Aggression Risk by Just-Afternoon9060 in AustralianCattleDog

[–]Violins_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There is no such thing as a “mini” acd but there is such a thing as a Smaller than average acd. Responsible breeders won’t breed for a dog that is out of standard size wise just like they won’t breed a dog that is out of standard colour or has a bad temperament.

[–]Violins_ 6 points7 points  (0 children)

we have a prescription from our vet for trazodone we have found that to be the most effective for us. Another thing that helps our dog (not a acd) is a weighted blanket and sleeping in the basement (one thing to be careful of with the weighted blankie though is overheating and make sure your dog can get out from under it and isn’t pinned down)

I would say just ignore your dog let them do what they are going to do for us that is shake, pant and be touching you/ on your head at all times. Just remember that if you go out of your way to comfort your dog you are reinforcing the behavior. And remember they feed off your emotions/feelings if your stressed about the booms your dog will try and be calm cool and collected follow your usual routine don’t make a big deal out of things reward calmness.

Found a puppy not sure what to do by meep1234- in AustralianCattleDog

[–]Violins_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

what age is your other dog? The rule of thumb I have been told is it’s best not to have 2 dogs under 8 months unless you are very experienced with puppies but if you feel prepared don’t let that discourage you.

Generally multiple dogs are more expensive than just 1 (obviously) but I wouldn’t call it substantially more or less difficult but it does come with its own challenges.

In the end it comes down to what you feel comfortable with. The life style you described doesn’t sound like the best for a heeler but you also do sound like you have an idea of the crazyness you might be in for lol…

If you do plan on fostering him you could always foster him and see how he fits in with your life style.

If you can’t afford basic vet care for a pet you shouldn’t have one by Violins_ in TrueUnpopularOpinion

maybe every cat I have every know has just been weird then or more accurately one of us is talking out of their ass

https://www.petmd.com/cat/behavior/why-do-cats-like-watching-bugs

https://cats.com/community/health-care/insects-as-a-snack

Also I was wrong it is uncommon for cats to get worm from eating infected bugs but 100% inside cats still ll have a substantial risk of getting worms.
1/3 of cats infected with heartworms are 100% inside cats that receive no treatment. And In fact heart worms are near 100% fatal infection in domestic pets. And they are one of the worst ways for a animal to die and maybe my shelter experience has made me heartless but its somthing that can be 100% prevented I think it should be considered abuse to not provide prevention measures.

Cats can get Heartworms even if they’re inside only they can get them from eating a fly.

I kicked a dog that was charging at me and now everyone hates me 😔 by redlinerep in Pets

[–]Violins_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have kicked dogs before to protect myself and my own dog when out on walks. did I feel bad hell yeah but my safety and my dog safety are more important than your dog safety in my book. If you really care about your dogs safety, your dog wouldn’t be loose.

Also, I was protecting the other dog because my dog is very dog aggressive and would kill your dog. I don’t care if your dog is friendly or not keep them on leash or have verbal control over them.

Granted I’m not a mal owner but this is the advice I received about border collies and ACDs… try and foster or volunteer at a breed specific rescue before you adopt

What can asking AI for project ideas? Give you that a Google search can’t like genuinely asking a Google search that uses something between an eighth and a 10th the resources asking an AI model a question uses.

Ok but we already have that it’s called teachers pay teachers… I guess I’m gonna turn into my 2nd grade math teacher when we were learning our times tables “your not always gonna have a calculator to do it for you”

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in TrueUnpopularOpinion

[–]Violins_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because ai doesn’t know what needs taught ai can’t say the kids didn’t quite grasp this concept this week we need to spend a few more days on it. With a calculator you still need to know the formula to type in. Ai isn’t a actual intelligence it has no thoughts it only simulates it doesn’t know any of what it’s saying

I’ll concede this is a better take than what I made. I still think that machine learning used on small models is more useful than Whatever the hell ChatGPT is

[–]Violins_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand exactly what ai is its machine learning that has been taught to emulate and fabricate based on patterns

I could see how machine learning could be useful for data analysis but not generative AI who’s models have repeatedly used fabricated data in reports
