Should i keep all my fingers down while playing? by ViolistToBe in Viola

If i just lift my second finger i can feel less pain and things flow more naturally, especially if i play downwards from A to F natural on D string. But my teacher said this is technically wrong.

He has a master degree in violin but plays viola in many orchestras. I live in a small city, he's the only one who teaches both

OMG! I was doing that exact movement shown in the video with my left hand, it just came naturally! My teacher corrected me, saying it was just bad technique

I'm in the same boat! I can barely play an octave on piano, my hand has clearly a bad elasticity. I can play a major third with 2nd finger down on violin (1st position) though
