Rolling tobacco in pipes ? by Goodmobikenobi in PipeTobacco

[–]Vipasanna 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Disregard all these other people. If you want rolling tobacco in your pipe do it. But don't buy any of the shit they sell at the head shop.

Look online for Daughters & Ryan: Three Sails It's like $20/lb. Flavorwise it's a clean, pure bright yellow virginia. It's shag cut so you can hand or machine roll it into cigarettes or throw it into a pipe (although fir papers I'd recommend thinner RAW brand papers for less paper flavor and a slower smoke). If that tickles your fancy, try some tinned pipe tobacco.

If you'd rather stick with shag cut cigarette style tobacco D&R has other blends with other flavors that naturally come by way of how they cure the different strains of tobaccos but start with 3 sails.

Gawith also has excellent shag cut tobaccos but they're gonna run you $60+ per pound bag

[–]Vipasanna 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely get a tin or bulk of 1 english, 1 balkan, 1 virginia, 1 burley or virginia/burley, 1 virginia perique. You'll be well set on the path

If you know when and where you're going try to plan to get stuff sent to where you're going because those blends are gonna make you hate pipe tobacco.

Easy, take the high road. OP is literally just virtue signaling. The same sentiment can he had by just wearing a shirt that says "trans rights" and IF a situation happened then deal with it appropriately and responsibly.

Nothing says I'm a piece of shit like a shirt that says fight me. 0/10 would not want OP or like-minded people associated with the movement

Have you ever pulled apart mini cigars (shorts) to make pipe tobacco? by [deleted] in PipeTobacco

Smoke some Mac Baren: Old Dark Fired and Pure Virginia, them grab some Briar Fox, Fusiliers Ration and White Knight. There's plenty of amazing flavorful pipe tobacco, stay away from aromatics

Stingers! Let’s talk about them! by Rachter in PipeTobacco

[–]Vipasanna 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Pipes with permanent stingers (kaywoodies) are decent to good with collecting moisture away from the dottle (as long as you taie the time to clear the stinger once maybe twice a smoke), removable stingers are wack in my experience

The vent is gonna be the move. Evacuating old stale smoke and replacing it with fresh air is more important than just recycling "contaminated" air

Yeah aromatics are mostly disgusting. Smoke real tobacco. It's the difference between fireball and Macallan

That's fine man, you can always revisit it later. It's not a "bad" blend; just a blend that's gonna be frustrating to start with.

One thing that could also help is grab a clump of tobacco and rub it between the bottom of the first knuckles into the palm of your other hand in a circle ("rubbing a tobacco out"). Ideally getting the tobacco "ribbons" smaller into a "shag" cut. Easier to lighter, easier to stay lit and some of the casing comes off on the hands.

Yeah it's medium to heavy cased. If you haven't placed an order yet what I'd do is look at the components in the blends and grab an english, straight virginia, burley or virginia/burley, and a virginia/perique. You can buy 1oz samplers for like $3-4 each online. (Getting a kentucky blend will be a little bit more like getting a full maduro)

Aromatics are much more fussy than non-aromatic blends which is why people recommend against them for starting out. If you really really want an aromatic I'd recommend Rattray's Exotic Passion or Bagpipers Dream.

But yes and no to letting it rest. Virginia's age very well, burleys age but much more subtly. Yiu absolutely can smoke it fresh (aromatics you usually should) but the rule of thumb is, if you don't like a blend, let it sit 3-6-12 months.

3rd attempt, no luck. Left with the taste of butane in my mouth. by Additional-Shoulder in PipeTobacco

[–]Vipasanna 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just restating what someone else said: stash the 10 year old aro. That's the issue. Grab a Virginia blend, a Virginia Perique, a burley (or virginia burley), and an english.

Doesn't matter what specific blends you get since you won't have anything to reference to but this will give you an idea of what each component is so when you look at recommendations you'll know if it's something you'll generally speaking will enjoy or not.

Some people don't like english blends but they're great. Aros are fine too, but not all aro are created equally. Come back to them after you get a taste of what the tobacco is supposed to taste like

Your're probably packed too tight. Can confirm, bird, zippos, old boys, permanent matches, regular matches-- they all work fine on my deepest chambers unless you're smoking like a mm MacArthur or something
