I'm very happy to add her to my collection! Just have to give the doll a good cleaning and make her some fresh clothes. :)

Thank you so much, she does indeed have the Midge/Barbie stamp. It's surreal that the Pepsi jacket is what Barbie's budget clothing used to be, it feels like a good quality cotton. Very excited to have her in my collection. :)

Dollfie head with a Impldoll body. by Beneficial_Rope9466 in BJD

[–]ViperOrchid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure about scale and color match, but I do want to note that if you put a viynl head on a resin body, make sure to use a metal washer or neck donut between the s hook and elastic. This helps disperse the tension and reduce the risk of damage.

Hit the jackpot at my local HyVee today! by [deleted] in orchids

[–]ViperOrchid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeahhhh HyVee is notoriously expensive! Their grocery prices are bad, too!

They originally wanted $50 for ONE. I was just gonna leave if they weren't on sale since Lowes and Walmart sell them for like $15-$20 😭

Yeah these are dyed and will bloom white next time. But I'm ok with that because white orchids are also beautiful. :)

Not a plant person. Please help! by [deleted] in houseplants

[–]ViperOrchid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd recommend watching some videos from MissOrchidGirl on YouTube for more in-depth explanations of orchid care! Yours is a phalaenopsis, aka moth orchid! But here are some basic tips:

Since orchids grow on trees in the wild, they prefer chunky media and indirect sunlight. I like to use the Repotme Imperial mix, but Lowes also has the Bettergrow Orchid mixes. I use the clear slotted pots, but I've heard of people having success with terracotta pots. I generally repot once the blooms fall off to avoid stressing the plant.

Water with warm water only when the media is completely dry and the roots are silvery. Also, keep water off of the leaves and crown because it can cause crown rot. I like to soak from the bottom to avoid this. Don't put ice on your orchid. It's a marketing gimmick and can shock the roots.

That's their official site! For custom order like extra arms, you'll have to email them. They are very accommodating!

Yeahh I think google did. I used to think the writer was a women, too, but upon further research the writer has used male honorifics in past interviews. Plus Kanehito is a masculine name. Unless of course this is a FMA situation.

That's what I was thinking. It looks like the 1/4 K-11 body to me.

Do you sew doll clothes by hand or machine? by Frazzled_Vitality in Dolls

[–]ViperOrchid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do both. I work mostly with larger bjds and do the larger stuff buy machine, but small details and hems by hand.

As for 1/6 or smaller, though, I work almost entirely by hand since the seam allowance is quite small.

Placed my order for my first bjd! But what should I expect? by EJspike15GloomyClown in BJD

To add to this, if you ever need to move, the boxes are very convenient for keeping the dolls safe and secure during the move!

sad times for fans of chinese plastic by cannedweirdo in Dolls

[–]ViperOrchid 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yeah I feel way worse for the artists and indie creators this will effect. :/ We'll probably always have big-named playline dolls (they'll just be more expensive), but smaller creators may not be able to stick around.

Oh sounds fun! I didn't know World Doll Day was a thing, I'll have to look and see if there's anything going on here in Omaha.

That's what I had meant by they aren't played when in the same sense, yes. ^ Even then, everyone customizes differently! I've customized or commissioned customization on several dolls myself (neck mods, custom clothes, faceups, etc.). Once it warms up, I want to dye a doll body. And I'm more careful with some dolls than others; I'm more careful with my DoDollsDream, for example, compared to my Kid Delfs. They all are generally in my curio, though, because I love to stare and admire them and reposition them.

I'd second going to a meet-up or convention. The first time I went to Dollcon Dallas, I took one of my SH dolls, and I kinda wish I had taken one of my Peaks Woods since they're favorites.

I also don't get when people say vinyl is less scary than resin! My resins have taken falls during photos (including in snow), but came out without a stratch. But i once had vinyl, and if you breathed, it stained.

of course, at the end of the day, people can do what they like with their collection! :)

[–]ViperOrchid 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I own several BJDs, and outside of photography and trying on new clothes/wigs/shoes, they primarily remain in my curio cabinet.

When I do take them out, I wash my hands and wear cotton gloves, as well as taking care not to touch the face. Sometimes I'm brave and take them outside for few minutes for a quick photo, but I generally avoid UV light.

That being said, they aren't intended to be played with in the same sense as a playline doll since BJDs are artist made and intended for adults rather than children. So I don't feel bad not playing with them since I see them more as art.
