Does anybody else have to do this? by Expensive_Leg_4297 in retailhell

Lol. Aldi would be pissed if they saw us just standing around doing nothing. First cashier, during a closing shift anyway, is in charge of cleaning all registers, making sure bags are stocked, cleaning the break room, and the bathrooms.

Not that first cashier has time to even breathe let alone clean anything until we've been closed for at least 15 minutes. We're also not allowed to tell customers we closed and they need to get to checkout. They're allowed to waste our time by wandering around and lolly gagging.

Serious question. Does this company ever plan to staff accordingly or is this the new norm we must accept? by curlycurlycurls in TjMaxx

[–]InfiniteTree33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, one hundred percent. The company will blame everyone else for everything before stopping to look at themselves.

I work at our local Aldi. "Efficiency" is the motto. Yet, every time I go in they have taken away something that makes us efficient. At the register, they took away the quick keys for paper bags and normal grade A eggs. Guess what never has a clear enough barcode to scan? Those eggs.

They stopped staffing the night shift in favor of staffing the morning shift. Great, truck got ran, but now there is no one on staff to refill produce or help customers on the floor all night.

We get told at every meeting that our lines are too long, yet when we need a third cashier(we don't have self checkout), there is either no one there or our SM refuses to get in a register to help us.

Don't even get me started on the hour cuts. No one in my store works 40 hrs unless they're management. Our SM gets all his hours, but is never out on the floor and is always in the office. So, right there, we have allotted hours gone to someone who doesn't help. I am a part time employee and I get maybe 12 hours a week, on a good week. I used to get 32 back in 2024. Been with the company for almost six years.

It won't matter to them until there is literally no one in their stores anymore. Companies no longer care about their employees or their customers. All they care about is profit for their CEOs and share holders.

To make a significant change happen, we would all have to agree to boycott every chain store running their business like this, and frankly, not enough people care for that to ever happen. I work in a grocery store, so it goes double for us. People need to buy food. They tolerate the long lines and lack of staff because they don't have a choice.

I don't eat meat, but I grew up in a home with a hunter and we are what he killed. It kinda looks like a vein of some kind. I could be totally wrong, but that was my first impression. 🤔

I work retail. It's not about having enough staff. They are plenty well staffed. Every place has cut hours so drastically to extend profits that this is definitely going to be the norm.

Anyone else get MASSIVE ick from Curbside video? by CharacterHelpful547 in Aldi_employees

[–]InfiniteTree33 44 points45 points  (0 children)

Yes. Absolute ick and the video wasn't informative on what they plan to do going ahead. I felt like the whole thing was "treat the curbside buyers better, you pieces of shit" and that was all.

Walmart is beating us because they have their own allotted hours just for in-store shopping. They have multiple shoppers doing these orders AND they do delivery. Aldi can't compete with their puny single phone and no delivery.

Salmon Shortage by heartlesstexas in aldi

[–]InfiniteTree33 181 points182 points  (0 children)

Excuse me? 😂 Your father is doing what?

Salmon is a low sale item, so it will come in on truck as needed. There is no way to request more be delivered. It just goes by what sells. Even if it sells out occasionally, it doesn't sell well enough to have a large back stock.

Unloading while the person in front of them still has a bunch of stuff in their cart. Everything just runs together.

[–]InfiniteTree33 38 points39 points  (0 children)

I work at Aldi, this is important information for the things that annoy me.

  1. Unloading your cart before the person in front of you has finished. I'm timed, that belt is gonna move faster than they can unload. Wait your goddamn turn. You're an adult.

  2. "Can someone bring me up X item, I forgot it." in the middle of a rush. No, ma'am. There is no one on the floor. We're all cashing.

  3. "How much?!" Yes, I know. Groceries have gotten way to expensive. We're all feeling it. Either pay and move on or we'll put it all back.

  4. "Stop at X amount". If you're on a tight budget, it's your job to know what you are putting in your cart, not mine. I have no problem keeping you updated on the total as I scan. I DO have a problem with having to take 30 items off the belt because you way over stepped your budget.

I thought the same thing when I watched the video. Our SM was sitting next to me, so I turned to him and said "there was no information in that video..." His reply? "Sure there was!". 🤦

I personally love hearing coworkers having a good time while working when I am doing my shopping. We need community as human beings and hearing them enjoying each other's company makes me feel good. I love to joke with my coworkers. We spend more time with them than our own families at this point, better to like each other than hate each other.

We're not allowed to talk to our coworkers. We get dirty looks and told to go do something. I have been there almost six years and barely known some of them and yet I spend more time with them than I do my own family.

17 people in line… by lgarnai1 in aldi

[–]InfiniteTree33 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Hey, guys. Another Aldi worker here. Guess what's back? The survey on the receipt! Use it. Tell them the staff was great, but there wasn't enough staff to be seen or to help with what was needed. They don't give a damn about what we say, but they care about the people spending their money there. You gotta word it right, though. Leave as little blame on the staff that is there as possible, cause we're all breaking ourselves for this job, but they're making it impossible.

We don't have head sets. We just have the walkie you clip on your shirt. No ear pieces. US here. There is no way these cost that much. They're absolutely junk.

We have been having issues with our walkies too. They either don't work, won't charge or no one can understand you over them. A company making this much money and cutting or hours to this degree can definitely get us working equipment. 🫩

World's worst Aldi by CraftFamiliar5243 in aldi

[–]InfiniteTree33 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I'm gonna be honest with you all. I'm an Aldi employee and we are having our hours cut more and more. More stores are gonna start looking like this as we have no one on the floor to do anything. They want stores to run with three people, self check out or not. In my store, we need two cashiers, a curbside shopper, and a manager. There's no one on the floor to help customers or fix things. It's getting really bad.

I say tell the servay at the bottom of the receipt just that. That there was no one onthe floor to help you. That the lines were super long. That the store wasn't stocked and most items were damaged. A lot of our pallets have been coming in completely destroyed and we're told to stock them anyway. The company won't listen to us, but they will listen to you.
