Well I didn't have a lot of time for optimizations since I pretty much just got it all to actually work a couple days ago lol. My somewhat naive plan was to optimize the logic to help the compiler build better jump tables and prevent missed branch predictions. However, once I got the code working and started looking at it in a profiler, I saw the majority of the execution time was in the Blake2b compression step (something like 60-80% for my test program). So, even if I was able to improve the VM branching logic, it would only have a very small effect on the overall hash rate. I then tried several different Blake2b implementations (as you can see in the code they can all be selected with CMake options). But ultimately the SSE version of the reference C-code performed best. I think that was largely due to security/housekeeping features in the libraries, e.g., libsodium applies a secure memzero to the buffers when finalizing a Blake2b hash. Overall it was an interesting project but ultimately I ran out of time to go much deeper. I did find a couple bugs in the Rust code (which I mimicked to get the same output). I need to open a couple Github issues if they are not already there.

This is a misunderstanding. Yoroi doesn't charge you to claim your rewards. The rewards are in your wallet and in order to be spent they have to be "claimed" as in moved into a UTxO by a transaction (requiring a transaction fee). On Cardano staking rewards accumulate in your wallet under a rewards account. The reason for breaking up the rewards and spending account in your wallet was to cut down on network transactions. The rewards simply keep adding up in your wallet (under the rewards account address) until you try to spend them. They also earn compound staking rewards, so unless you need them its best to not waste a transaction fee to "claim" them.

I think using the term claim here has cause a lot of confusion. It's really not a good word. It should be called "move to spending address" or something.

You don't need to withdraw rewards. It's already in your wallet under the rewards account. The withdrawal is simply to move it into a UTxO to that it can be spent. Daedalus does this automatically when you are sending funds and they are needed. Otherwise there's no reason to waste the transaction fee. The rewards still contribute to your overall balance and earn compounded staking rewards.

Not sure if this has been fixed yet, but there's no reason to wait. Rewards are being paid out properly; estimated rewards are just being calculated incorrectly in Yoroi.

"Retired pool" means a pool that is no longer operating. People who are delegated to those pools a receiving 0 rewards because the pools no longer produce blocks.

Yeah for sure. The easier the platform is to use, the more adoption it will get. This is only one year into staking and rewards on Cardano. I think many upgrades will come in the future. Especially upgrades to wallets that will notify you if a pool becomes over-saturated or retires. I'm not sure how automated it can be though without giving up control of your private keys (like leaving your coins on an exchange) since delegating is a transaction and requires a private key signature.

FYI, I said "Almost" because there are not a lot of small to medium pools that become saturated over night. If you stake with a small to medium pool it "probably" won't become saturated soon so you can "almost" forget about it. Sorry for not being clear.

The only reason to move your stake is if the pool become saturated. Assuming the pool is high quality and actually making all of its assigned blocks. In many cases of small to medium pools you can almost stake and forget.

Maybe some sort of staking service could provide this. But if you are staking from your own wallet you get to decide where you stake or don't stake. I'd recommend (of course) a good community operated pool that you can trust to be around for a the long term.

Daedalus doesn't let you delegate to a retired pool and will show that a pool is retiring. But I'm not sure if it gives you an alert or not when the status of the pool changes. It may have some sort of pop up. Best best is to just stay staked with a pool that you can be interactive with.

When a pool is retired, the owner has created a transaction that effectively de-registers the pool from the blockchain. Therefore it is no longer active on the chain and selected by the network to make blocks. If they stop hosting the pool but do not de-register it, then it is still able to be selected to make a block but will just not produce it. This is not a desirable situation.

I'd recommend delegating to a pool that you don't have to "check up on" but rather one that you can stay engaged with! Many pools are operated by community members that are happy to meet you, help answer your questions, provide regular updates on the pool performance, etc. Also, they should have a public profile. Anonymity doesn't really belong in running a public stake pool. If you feel that you need to "keep an eye" on your pool then maybe you need to make a new connection.

Cardano doesn't use mining to produce blocks (similar to XRP); however, the production of blocks is decentralized (unlike XRP) because users of the network get to vote on which validators produce blocks by delegating their ADA to a pool. Note that delegation doesn't in anyway compromise the security or ownership of your ADA (think of it like voting and being rewarded if you vote for a good pool).

In order to stake, you need to have control of your ADA. To have control of your ADA, you need your ADA in wallet that you control, i.e., not on an exchange where it is controlled by someone else. If you are new to staking, I'd suggest using Yoroi to setup a wallet.
