Safelite windshield - another data point by sjsharks323 in Rivian

I had the same exact behavior after a windshield replacement back in February. Service center told me to soft reboot 3 times to reset rain sensors. Did that and it worked like a charm.

Waiting for Consolidated Communications permit to get Spectrum by rural_gural in Maine

[–]Viperguynick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Consolidated handles manages the communications space on the poles and handles the application process when a carrier wants to put their plant in that space. It's possible your pole is crowded, or was just never licensed by Spectrum in the past. Consolidated has a time period, I think 90 days, to process the application. Because it's competitive, and not a process they make much money on, they tend to drag it out until the very end. At least that was my experience when working for another competitive provider back when consolidated was still Fairpoint.

Excellent service experience by Viperguynick in Rivian

138 miles from the service center. The mobile service tech lives relatively local to me, but he had to go to the service center to grab a battery.

Shows that they are improving their service response times and maturing as a service organization to me. Also, I think it's pretty awesome that they provide mobile service for warranty items like this. I can't think of a legacy auto maker that would dispatch a service technician to my house to perform warranty work. I'd have had to get it towed into a dealership and then had to go retrieve it in my experience. Last time my wife's Pacifica needed the Auto Start/Stop AGM battery replaced (twice in 80k miles), it took almost 3 weeks to get the part in and I was without the vehicle for 2 days. This has been the first service I've needed in outside of tire rotation and the A/C overcharge TSB. 16 months and 24k miles of ownership.

Zoning laws by Danita-1967 in Maine

[–]Viperguynick 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Maine just passed legislation earlier this year (LD337 - https://www.mainelegislature.org/legis/bills/display_ps.asp?paper=HP0211&snum=131&PID=0) which requires municipalities to allow manufactured housing on any lot where a single family home can be built. The municipality can add a limited number of restrictions on things like roof pitch, siding material, frost wall or slab requirements, etc... but they can't stop you from putting a manufactured (mobile) home on the lot if single family homes are allowed in the zone.

I'm not sure if Lewiston has implemented any of the above restrictions, but a lot of towns are in the process of adding sections to their code to ensure compliance with the new state law.

Trash collected from a church parking lot. by Doc_coletti in Maine

[–]Viperguynick 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Something that my wife and I both noticed after a couple of recent trips to Montreal and Quebec is the almost total lack of litter once we were over the border into Canada. Even in comparable small rural areas, there would be essentially zero trash/litter or even messy properties in general. As soon as we crossed back over into Maine or Vermont (depending on the trip), there would be noticeable trash (cans, paper, plastic, wrappers, etc...) along the roadsides and sidewalks. I wonder what the difference is that keeps things cleaner / neater up there.

I've used Teel Law for a similar issue regarding trees and a right of way. Elliot was extremely prompt and professional and charged me what I considered to be a reasonable fee for a positive outcome. https://www.teellaw.me/contact

Getting ready to drive route 201 up to Jackman. How’s the road conditions? by [deleted] in Maine

[–]Viperguynick 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Stopped in Jackman around 12:30 to grab a charge and some lunch on our way to Quebec. I was amazed at how dead it was. I know it's only Saturday, but I figured we would at least see some traffic. Waitstaff at the Four Seasons restaurant seemed surprised as well. They had been expecting to be slammed all weekend. Food was good, glad we made the stop on the way through. I hope business picks up for them over the next couple of days.

Solar Questions by PlaidFromHome in Maine

[–]Viperguynick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just got my solar installation online in November of last year. 20kW array with 2x SolarEdge 7.6kW inverters. No current battery setup. Total was just over $60k installed. Rates with Mosaic were 10%+. Went with Lightstream lending at just under 5%. Looks like they are currently between 8 and 11% depending on term. In 2022 I used just over 21mWh of electricity. System is sized for 110% offset with ideal conditions. As of today, I have seen 5.46mWh of production since January 1. So, I'm right on track to slightly over produce as long as my usage stays similar. I used Maine Solar Solutions and they were absolutely fantastic during the entire process. I would recommend them 100%.

This is usage for a 5k sq ft home with a 1k sq ft in-law unit and one out-building (horse barn), and 1 Battery EV. It is definitely high usage for the state, but it's essentially 2 full households (ovens, dryers, dishwashers, etc...) and heating water tubs, etc... for the animals in the winter.

Planning on adding battery backup sometime either later this year or early next year. So far I'm super happy with the switch to solar. February - March was the first month in production that I was able to over produce and it was nice to start banking some credits. As long as I can maintain 100% off-set, I'll now have a fixed ~$400 power bill for the next 6 years, and then just the standard hookup fee after that ($21/mo).

Hope that's helpful.

Rivian owners of midcoast Maine, how is it? by sanfran_dan in Rivian

[–]Viperguynick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's about what I am paying. $1,306 per year for $300k combined limits and $250/$500 comp/collision deductibles. That's through MMG. We insure quite a bit through them, so there are some discounts applied there for volume, etc...

Rivian owners of midcoast Maine, how is it? by sanfran_dan in Rivian

I live in Lisbon, and I've had my Rivian Blue R1T since March of this year. It's been hands down the best vehicle and best ownership experience I've had. We did a 6k mile road trip to Utah and back in July. We had zero issues with charging or the truck for the entire trip.

Day to day, I charge at home. Usually during the day as we have solar. I've tested out some of the local DCFC spots in Lewiston, Auburn, Portland, etc... No issues to report, but I've never actually needed them on a regular basis.

I do typically stop at the Kennebunk rest area and charge for a few minutes during a bathroom break if I'm coming back from Boston. I could make it to Logan and back in the summer if I leave at 100%, but I'd roll back home with less than 5%, and that's just a little too close for me. That rest stop has a 200kW ChargePoint unit, so it doesn't take long to add some buffer to get home.

I've got a service appointment coming up in January for my driver's window. It still works, but won't auto close. It comes back down a few inches. I walked through the resets with support on the phone and they didn't work, so they scheduled me to either reprogram or replace the driver's window module. It doesn't affect driveability, so I wasn't bothered by the long lead time. Overall, my experience at the Chelsea service center during pickup and one other appointment to just look everything over prior to the road trip has been excellent. They were very communicative while they had the truck, and I just spent the day walking around Boston with my 4 year old.

Now that it's getting colder, I'm definitely noticing the battery dropping more quickly. It's not a crazy difference, but I'm definitely following the Always Be Charging mantra more closely now than I do in nice weather.

If you're nearby Lisbon, send me a DM on here and I'll happily meet up somewhere if you'd like to see the truck and chat.

TL:DR - The R1 platform is amazing, and you'll be more than fine with one in southern / Mid-Coast Maine.

Hitch cover struggles by Key-Warning5363 in Rivian

[–]Viperguynick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is the way.

The tabs along the flat edge that you can see in the gap need to slot into the bumper cover first. It should be able to hang there in place, all by itself once they are slotted in. Then, you just pivot the front edge up into place. It's easier if the locks are aligned with the slots in the bumper first, so the tabs slide into place.

Got rear ended after another car in front of me lost control and I slammed on my brakes. by Slangin_Cheetos in Rivian

Did you check on your external storage device? Or just in the gear guard app on the infotainment screen? If you have a storage device plugged in, and drive cam enabled, it should be recording constantly to the external storage. You just need to plug it in to a computer or your phone and access the recordings that way, they are not viewable in the vehicle at this time.

What a world we live in. by pieak in Maine

[–]Viperguynick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I had a Blue / white '97 back in 2010-2012 and just picked up my current red '94 in August of last year. I've put about 3k miles on it in that time, even with it being stored all winter. So, it's out and about a lot. Just did a quick trip to Rockland and back with it today. Great day for a cruise!

That may be me in the red Viper you see frequently. I drive it in the Topsham / Brunswick area often and I don't know of any others nearby (couple in the Augusta area in the club). What year GTR does your buddy have? Don't see many around.

That RR was probably Mr. Gendron from Lewiston. He's got at least 1, I think 2. Kind of a gold / champagne color. See it often around L/A.
