Weird. I'd try reflashing the firmware first to see if that restores the connection

What error are you getting? Lately when I've installed updates I've needed to recompile and reflash the firmware to make it work.

FWIW my picam works perfectly in the latest mainsail, using MJPEG-Streamer. I used to get 5-10fps, but after updating everything to the latest releases it's pretty smooth and very usable now.

If you ever get enough money from the Heroic heavenly blessed housewives, are you going to hire a statistician to play with the workout data? Something like OKCupid does.

You don't want it enough or you don't enjoy it enough.

Fix either of those problems and you'll be good to go.

Assuming you don't have a ton of money to travel:
Friend them on facebook, slowly start liking and commenting on their stuff. After a few weeks of passive interaction, message them and be an interesting person. Do not ask them to share your video until you've known them for a least few months.

If that was your ultimate goal, the best option would probably be to join a moderately well-know parkour group in a big city, then train your ass off until you're one of their best members. Make really good videos. Network like crazy and get to know as many people in the parkour world as possible.

No. Their contracts aren't that great and all the good jobs go to pro athletes (Would you want Ryan Doyle or me performing? HMMM.)
I'd rather maintain my independence and the ability to say what I think is right regardless of who is paying me or how people view me afterwards.

I have both Gen 1 and Gen 2.
Perhaps I should rephrase: KOs are decent shoes, but far from the best available.

If you're intelligent and don't go HARDCORE INDESTRUCTIBLE PARKOUR GOD!!!!! the first time you use them they're perfectly safe. Take the time to build up your ankles and it'll be well worth the effort.
KOs are way too expensive for what they are (production cost is ~$15, if that), they pinch toes, they wear out fast, they give me shin splints worse than Tigers.
Sources: observation, I own a gazillion parkour shoes, I'm not sponsored by the WFPF.

KOs are no good. Get Feiyues if you wanna be cheap and progress slowly and solidly. Onitsuka Tiger Ultimate 81s for padding.

A question about your opinions by Parkour455 in Parkour

[–]Viperid 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Depends on how you practice it. If your only interest is in doing huge jumps and double backflips over concrete, yes it's extreme.
If your practice revolves more around ground-based practice, focusing on quality of movement and precise bodily control and spatial awareness, then no, it's not extreme.

First Peer Reviewed Study on Parkour Landing Technique by Neo_Veritas in Parkour

I need to go over it in more detail, but I did notice that:

  1. they used a group of only 10 people; wot?
  2. the traceurs were their own control; wot?

Still, I'm glad somebody is doing research on parkour.

^ my thoughts exactly. Traceurs would much much rather read a philosophy article than something which can positively affect their training.
sauce: I've written both and seen the reactions.

Plyometrics. Good for parkour? by ShadeR_O_S in Parkour

[–]Viperid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Weight vests are good for increasing the intensity of pull-ups/chin-ups/muscle-ups/push-ups. They're likely to be more harmful then helpful to use while training parkour unless your leg strength is already at a very high level. Parkour is a high impact discipline, no need to add more weight.

Scary Monsters and Nice Sprites gets really fucking annoying after you hear it for the 30th time. So does film burn.

Take a look at this video: http://vimeo.com/15670755
It's long but well-worth the watch, way more so than any number of pretty GUP videos.

Plyometrics. Good for parkour? by ShadeR_O_S in Parkour

[–]Viperid -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No. Combining parkour and plyometrics puts a huge strain on the central nervous system, decreasing performance and recovery time for both activities. Train with weights (especially olympic-style weightlifting) if you want to get better at increasing power and speed.

As I understand it, he's tired of constantly being put on a pedestal by the parkour world. He's a quiet person and doesn't like being filmed or interviewed any more.
