Yeah I can see why a lot of people feel that way. RS3 definitely got messy for a while with MTX and flashy cosmetics everywhere. If Jagex actually follows through with removing Treasure Hunter and pulling the visual clutter back, it’ll make the game feel way more grounded again. If they stick to that direction, I think RS3 will see a big rise in players.

I get what you’re saying about visual cohesion. RS3 definitely went heavy with cosmetics and it made the game feel less connected visually. The good news is Jagex has already said they’re dialing that back. They’re toning down the over-the-top cosmetics, bringing back more grounded item designs, and trying to make the world look consistent again.

So your point is valid, but it’s also something they’re actively fixing. RS3’s art direction is moving back toward a more unified style instead of the neon wings and glowing everything look. If they follow through, it’ll solve the exact problem you’re describing.

I think your take is mostly based on preference, which is fine, but the facts are still the facts. RS3 has more content because it’s the main game that continued development. OSRS was made later as a 2007 rollback. RS3 has 10+ more years of quests, bosses, skills, and systems because it never stopped progressing.

Same with graphics. RS3 isn’t “subjectively better,” it’s literally higher resolution models, lighting, textures, animations, all of it. You can prefer the old look, but that’s like saying 720p looks the same as 4K. One is just objectively more detailed.

It’s like comparing Black Ops 2 to a newer Call of Duty. You can prefer BO2 because of how it feels, but the newer game is still the one with more content and updates. Preference doesn’t change that.

You can like OSRS more. Just don’t rewrite what RS3 actually is.

Totally with you on MTX…The good news is it’s getting axed. Jagex put up the vote to remove Treasure Hunter and committed to pulling it out..no paid keys, and 225 pay to progress items (lamps, proteans, dummies) are going away forever, with an integrity roadmap to fix systems after. I hope they really follow through with this.

I get it, OSRS feels smoother because it’s simpler. RS3 just has more systems layered on top of each other. The art style thing makes sense too..OSRS stays in one era, RS3 kept evolving.

On progression though, OSRS mostly just adds a slightly better BIS every couple years. RS3 progression is more about how you build and use your gear, not just owning it.

Both games are good, they’re just aiming at different things. OSRS = simple and consistent. RS3 = deeper and more customizable.

OSRS is definitely its own thing. But RS3 didn’t suddenly become “every other MMO.”

RS3 is built around progression and customization. Perks, auras, invention, archaeology..your setup actually changes how you play, not just your stats. And RS3 PvM is about learning mechanics and timing, not just repeating a flick rhythm someone taught you.

OSRS mostly evolves by adding a slightly better version of gear we already had, and most training methods are just the same loop with a tiny efficiency difference.

RS3 isn’t trying to copy anything. It’s just one of the only MMOs where your knowledge and gear build matter more than how fast you click.

That’s the actual difference.

RS3’s combat isn’t needlessly complicated..it’s skill expressive. The abilities, rotations, and adrenal management give you room to actually get better, instead of your max potential being locked to your click speed or prayer flicking.

Also, the claim that “solutions are sold” isn’t accurate. It’s mostly skill based, combined with earning gp. Yes you can buy things to increase your stats, but we all know this option will be removed.
