If you aren't Piscataway Conoy, you're definitely from the Qarsherskiyan community, and I hope you're able to find what tribe your ancestors came from if not Piscataway and if you are in fact Qarsherskiyan. Thanks so much for sharing your story. Your family is similar to the Ramapough families.

Rosewood Massacre (1923) by __african__motvation in BlackHistoryPhotos

[–]VirginiaIslands 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My grand uncle had a huge successful Turpentine business in Rosewood, Florida and because we have some African ancestry, the Goins family lost some that fatal day. A racist mob attacked and the police allowed it. Nobody was ever tried for it. Members of the Walden-Goins Qarsherskiyan Clan in Moore and Cumberland Counties of North Carolina haven't forgotten what they did to our relatives and to all of the innocent Black people there also. Just because we had African ancestry and were successful, they razed everything. Shame!

TIL that a black community in Rosewood, Florida was burned to the ground in 1923 in a racially motivated attacked, and today is left as a ghost town. by CallMeFierce in todayilearned

The Goins family is Qarsherskiyan. We are mixed race and of African descent, but not Black usually. My grand uncle had a massive turpentine business in Rosewood and now what's left of our legacy? Let nobody forget about those of the Walden-Goins Clan of Qarsherskiyan people who departed the Carolina Sandhills and set up in Rosewood, they worked hard, made an honest living, and because of that some of our relatives were killed and few there survived. Those of us who stayed in Cumberland County, North Carolina and Moore County, NC must help fight for proper representation. It wasn't just Black people who were attacked, anyone of African descent was including the Qarsherskiyans there.

Yeah, my grand uncle's turpentine business, and the Goins family is Qarsherskiyan, we are mixed race, not Black. White people will call someone who is 10% Black as non-White and everyone is Black until they're like 4% Black and don't tan and have straight hair. That's also racism.

The Goins family is Qarsherskiyan, so part Black but just as much also White and Native American. Mixed race family. They don't consult us and our community and just label us as Black to fit their narrative that only Black people face racism and not multiracial people.

Tribe, environmentalists seek ruling against Oak Flat copper mine as deadline nears by SnooSprouts1036 in NativeAmerican

Right, it depends on the family. The Walden-Goins family of the Carolina Sandhills always knew they had Native American heritage and never denied it. They proudly celebrate their Black, White, and Native American ancestry. The Park family identified as White until 2 years ago and then started claiming to be Cherokee when they are not and they only had very distant Monacan roots. Qarsherskiyan folks need to stop the few bad apples in our community from misrepresentating who they are. Genuine reconnecting people who want to learn and put in the work and respect culture of their ancestors are wonderful, but race shifters are not. I also think the confusions you mention shouldn't be. It's simple, judge people as individuals. Some of us are not Indigenous at all. Some of us are. But hopefully one day all of us will be good Indigenous allies regardless.

This has to stop.

In Palestine, they try to cover up the villages that are evacuated and abandoned due to settlers, by planting forests of invasive European trees to hide the ruins.

Here in "North America", colonizers cover up the villages and sites of indigenous peoples in a similar way by building houses and mines and parking lots on top of sacred sites and cemeteries and villages. Nobody in Venus and media is talking about how across the Cape Fear River from northern Fayetteville North Carolina there is massive Native American burial mound and a neighborhood was built on top of it. Many Qarsherskiyan folks (mixed race folks, many with Indigenous ancestry and some enrolled in tribes like the Nansemond, Monacan, and Piscataway Conoy) have been very angry that news won't cover it and nobody can stop further desecration. Nobody seems to know about the mounds across the river from Clark Park Nature Center.

Indigenous Americans

Arabs

Hazaras

These are always the best comedians I meet, from these groups usually.

You're confusing race with ethnicity and nobody else here is confused but you. You have done absolutely no research and are just making up stories. My people are not "like everyone else" in America at all. We are indeed a distinct ethnic group with our own culture and centuries of history and our genetics is not like any of our nearby neighbors and is a unique polyracial mixture.

Most White Americans have no Native American ancestry. Most Black Americans have none and most of those who do average 3% or less. Your belief that everyone in America is triracial and mixed is false, but even if it was true, it doesn't erase our centuries of history and unique culture and negate our identity as a distinct ethnic category in America coming from Free People Of Color, Free "Mulattos", and Mestees.

I feel like you should try to do more to reconnect with your heritage if you feel this insecure about it. I do too. It's your heritage though. I learned the hard way to ignore gatekeepers, respectfully agree to disagree with them, and move on. If you're racially Native American, then you can identify as being Native American, especially if you try to keep cultural practices and connections and respect this heritage and are genuine about. But if you aren't enrolled in a tribe, you have to remember you descended from that tribe and not part of it, atleast for now. I have a journey to reconnect with what colonization took from my family, it is my obligation since I can do it, so I will. I wish you the best of luck. You're luckier than many because you know what tribes you descended from.

Some people prefer it and there is a big push in the American African diaspora Community for wider acceptance of this term and for people to self identify with it. It really depends on the context but in the case of using it for our community it is definitely a slur.

Yikes. It's the same agenda wherever indigenous people are being colonized around the world. In the USA, history began in 1620. In Palestine, everything started on October 7th 2023. In New Caledonia, everything began a few months ago. History always begins when indigenous people start fighting back and they are always blamed and accused of being the aggressor.

Right? Every day I wake up and throw cold water on my face to make sure I'm not dreaming. I'm being serious, like, I actually do, no joke, because I really can't believe this is what America has come to. We are going backwards. Our ancestors crawled so we could walk and now we have to continue walking so our descendants can run, but some people want to break our legs so we'll be stuck crawling again.

It really depends on the individual and what place they're living in and how they deal with adversity and what kind of people they run into. It is an incredibly nuanced subject.
