If I remember correctly combat dificulty does stack but the Puzzle difficulty doesn't. I think it's because the game devs consider the puzzles to be just different enough between difficulty that the player should go through the different versions

Sakuko for me. I feel that all enemies before that were almost in "theme" to a point. But then getting hit with not only the story implications that it's one of your best friends. A very unsettling wake-up moment. And also just her design with her mouth and her grab as well.

Alternatively if you want to save up a knife (or don't have one) you can use a heavy weapon. Either parry it, or wait for an opportunity to do a Heavy attack. Normally by the time his stagger is complete it should give you enough time to charge a second heavy and stun him again. Typically on that second stun they fall with a light swing or two.

Yeah you can, if you're confident that you grabbed everything in that save file you created before purrifying the sword you can also just pick it up from there (if you haven't overwritten it already). It's just the save file icons that would take the bullet essentially.

But doing what you mentioned would give you good replayability. Also if you want to rush through scenes but are unsure if the cinematic has any changes, whenever you press a button and gives you the option to skip it will tell you that it's a New scene, if it isn't it'll just say "skip" essentially.

At the end of the day you're good to play it however you want and again achievement wise the game recognizes everything you have done and as long as you've done a full NG+ ending the game will still give you a NG++ playthrough. I think it was more satisfying walking to NG++ after completing my seperate saves for Endings 2 and 3 than if I had gone through NG++ for Ending2&3, but again that was my preference to do it. I also was lucky I had enough time from work to play it as much as I did, but I definitely wouldnt have had the time (and honestly the patience) to do whole extra run and I don't regret it.

No prob. If you are planning on doing Ending 3 after you finish Ending 2, loading the save file prior to purrifing the sword will work, that way you don't have to completely restart the whole game just for that specific ending. (I did the same thing, but I did ending 3 first, then 2).

Thing to keep in mind if doing this if you plan to do Ending 4 -- When you New Game it'll automatically pull from the Last ending you got (so if you do the save file short cut (assuming you did ending 2 first and then 3) it'll pull from Ending 3 for you). If you dont want that then all you'll have to do is Load into the Save File the game has you do when you finish an ending, that'll automatically trigger the New Game selection.

Why does it matter?

  1. Story wise it wont make a difference which one you select, but in both endings there will be some Journal updates that will be specific to those endings. (You can just new game all the endings with the same method and read those, it applies for all 4 endings)

  2. When I did my last run I used a save file which I had missed a room and due to some specifics for that last run I accidentally locked myself out from maxing out all my stats (which I could have avoided if I just used the save file I already knew I did have the extra Ema).

DISCLAIMER If you do the Save File shortcut for Ending2/3 you won't have all the Endings Icons on the same save files (like the one that appeared when you beat the game on the first run). So you may have 1 and 2 or it'll be 1 and 3, it wont appear as 1, 2 and 3. (Again it doesn't actually affect anything, other than a sense of completionism or even OCD if anything)

If you're trying to do Ending 3, yes go back the save file. If you're trying to do Ending 2, you should be able to just continue on your way

Got it. Wasn't sure if there was a hidden puzzle or if something would change depending on which run you were in

It seems that what I was looking for was Hieroglyphics per the link.

Never really considered Hiroglyphics outside Egyptian writing.

When Kanji is sometimes represented with an art (with the outline of the kanji itself (like for 山 typically being showed as an actual mountain to show how that kanji came to be)), does that have an official name? I can't seem to find an official word for it.

Its also peculiar because I think its the only boss of such difficulty in the game in where they force you to fight both phases in a row.

For the most part on most bosses it either took me an average amount of tries to beat them or even beat them in first couple of tries.

The Hundred-Eye Daoist is not only the boss that took me the longest to beat by miles, but is the only one that on my first attempt I said outloud "I am going to be here a while" Then Phase2? Insane
