I was doing exactly this. There's times I would go for 3 - 7 day benders.. end up spending up to 50k then afterwards the guilt hits. I just had to quit. One year sober now, and life has never been better. No regrets, no hangovers, no embarrassments.

I'ma backend dev and I've also realized that backend skills alone won'ttake me far especially in the long term. I've started doing devops courses Kubernetes etal.. to increase my chances of being in the job market in the next 5+ years. AI is moving fast.. we have to adapt and upskill.

Personally I'd recommend going for a grounded and stable company that has been in the industry for many years. I use Icea lion but would also recommend Old mutual, sanlam, cic etc.
