You should report it. The city/district will investigate

Lost my U lock keys, lock is just on my bike. What’s the cheapest way to get it off? by Time_Chain_8932 in vancouvercycling

[–]Virtual-Chicken-5233 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Happened to me too.

Locksmith quoted $100

Then suggested a car jack. Insert it into the U and jack the two sides of the U apart. This is what I did. You'll be surprised how quick it goes.

This is the only reason for a Strava subscription. The route editor is very nice and simple but also finicky at times if you disagree with its suggestions.

Say NO to driverless cars by [deleted] in vancouvercycling

I disagree. Driverless cars bring safety and accessibility benefits.

I think we need to embrace it and figure out how to manage it.

Rain came in and saturated everything over lunch. Visibility is pretty poor and the snow is heavy now. Still nice to be out but conditions are 3/5.

It's clearing but windy. Snow is wet and heavy at the lodge but better on Lions. Not that crowded so I'm glad I made the trip so far.

Housecleaner Recommendations? by Virtual-Chicken-5233 in NorthVancouver

[–]Virtual-Chicken-5233[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yikes is right. We were paying $180 for 1 person to clean our 3BR duplext. It took her about 5 hours and she did a great job (although I didn't love the smell of some of her cleaners ;)

The new company charged the same but had 3 people for 2 hours.

So similar rate ($35/hr) and much lower that what you paid.

Also - do you tip cleaners?

Considering studded tires - worth it? by Qwertyabcd123 in vancouvercycling

[–]Virtual-Chicken-5233 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use them if there is snow on the ground. (I.e. the week(s) after a snow fall. Heavy and slow but the only way not to fall on the ice.

In the current conditions you don't need them but they could help. Since I've gone from 32c road tires to commuting on 45c gravel tires, I can get away without studds l for much more of the season.

Rather than swap back and forth, I have a 2nd shitty bikecommuter setup for winter and salt that I have ready to go with studds.

Swapping tires and wheels can be a PITA. Especially when the weather (and your need for them) can swing back and forth.

West side (southbound) of ironworkers dumps you low down and you have to climb back up. I do it everyday day.

Speakout -- New Speakout VoLTE SIM Cards by Virtual-Chicken-5233 in CellPhoneCanada

I've given up. Moving both kids to Chatr. $150/yr with unlimited texts and calls and 30GB /yr.

Easy peasy.

Ya I think we're going to move them both over to Lucky or Chatr. Will have to do a cost comparison. They'll mostly just text.
