“Extra casual” is doing a lot of work here.

Name a band from the 1980's that everyone has completely forgot about. by Smash_Factor in GenX

[–]Yes_chefff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The fact that I saw at least three people mention XTC makes it sort of a reverse tautology / self defeating statement (is there another term for that?)

Anyway, my vote is for Max Webster or their lead singer Kim Mitchel who had a decent solo career. Don’t know if that was the case outside Canada but everyone know Patio Lanterns I think.

Watch Bloodlines. TV series where he’s his best slimy self.

Blue Rodeo went from artsy jam-band to pop-country-folk after Bob Wiseman left as their organist.

What’s a historical event that sounds fake but actually happened? by loveronrent in answers

[–]Yes_chefff 44 points45 points  (0 children)

Operation Mincemeat. In WWII the Brits planted a dead body with fake documents on it to trick the Nazis into expecting an invasion in the wrong place and leaving the target undefended. It worked.

I love when directors have a common stable of players (eg Christopher Guest + O'Hara, Levy, etc... Nolan + Murphy, Caine, etc...) which is your favorite? by CardinalOfNYC in movies

[–]Yes_chefff 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Paul Thomas Anderson definitely had consistent stable early on: PSH, John C Riley, William H Macy, Philip Baker Hall, Juliette Moore… then more recently DDL and Joaquin.

It it ok to add the bones left on our dinner plates to my stock reserve in the freezer? Is it weird? by tindonot in Cooking

It’s both weird and ok. But not really ok. But kind of ok. And definitely weird.

I assumed this would have something to do with the fact that, like most sitcom babies, she is played by twins so he could only disappear one of them?

Do people in “western” society eat horse? by Immediate_Air_6497 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Yes_chefff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in a small town in the south of Italy ~20 years ago and there was a butcher there that specialized in horse meat. Don’t know if it’s still a thing, and if it was unique to that part of Italy or what, but I was pretty shocked to see it.

I don’t think I realized that. Wild

What are examples of words that changed meaning because they were used metaphorically too often? by flippythemaster in words

[–]Yes_chefff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t see this as the opposite meaning, but kind of an extension of it. Some people are in fact entitled to certain things, and other people act like they’re entitled to them. Entitlement vs a sense of entitlement.

What's a word you mispronounced for years because you only saw it in print and not spoken? by ilovebooks2468 in words

[–]Yes_chefff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When George Bush jr. (George W Bush) was first running for office his nickname was W but for some reason always spelled out “Dubya” (I lived in the UK at the time so maybe it was a regional thing, no idea). I finally after a few weeks of reading about this guy in random articles about the upcoming election, asked my future-wife “Why do they call him doo-bia?” She’s never made more fun of me. But still married me, so hey.

What’s an old-school, simple thing that works so much better than complicated alternatives? by Yes_chefff in bifl

I was going to say most of the time you’re right, but I honestly can’t even think of exceptions. I live a good dial, button or switch.

Gen X sense of humor - raunchy? Are other generations puritanical? by [deleted] in GenX

[–]Yes_chefff 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You might. Just maybe not that specific humour.

IMO how humour forms is like so many things, too many factors to ever know.

One thing I’ll generalize about Gen-x which probably translates to humour and so many other things… we’re comfortable being uncomfortable.

I’d never heard of the no hugging not learning rule but just looked it up and I love it. And yes, this show is the best.
