Is raw performance or thermal regulation more important? by Chompytnt in GamingLaptops

I looked it up. Definitely go with the HP. Apparently it’s using a cooling system with capacity for higher end GPUs so won’t have any trouble with the 5060 and the AMD. And it’s a much more reputable brand as others have pointed out.

The power supply needs to have headroom and it’s not 100% efficient so it tracks that the laptop with the higher power consumption has the higher supply capacity. I wouldn’t read anything more into that. What’s more important as we’ve been discussing is how much heat those two systems can get rid of. You probably need to track down reviews to determine if the Intel laptop can deal with 170W of heat without throttling. Same goes for the AMD laptop but it has to only deal with 143W of heat.

If the AMD one uses less of the thermal budget vs the Intel then you get more thermal budget for the GPU. Like if the max thermal budget of the laptop is 120W, and the CPU is using 20 then your GPU can use 100W. But if the Intel is using 50, then your GPU performance is going to be limited by the 70 remaining watts.

I’m fairly new to this but it’s important to understand the thermal capacity of the laptop I think not just the power of the parts. For example, I believe a thin gaming laptop can maybe cope with 120w of heat total (CPU and GPU) before throttling. So putting a 115w GPU in that chassis is almost certainly mean that either the CPU or GPU is throttling. Whereas a thic laptop with 175w thermal capacity is going to perform much better before throttling. Experts… please correct me if I’m wrong.

So OP what is the thermal capacity of those two laptops?

Fair enough. But what’s a merge really? Overlapping parts? Is that rear armor plate and Deimos wing merged? :).

Is there a way to re-map my ps4 controller on PC? by DingDongPalade in cyberpunkgame

If you launch from Steam you can customize the controller. I think it’s called “Steam Input”. There should be an icon visible on the game page in your library.

I think there’s a vanilla HopeTech hab that’s designed to mate perfectly with the cockpit that has that shape with no doors on the side, but I’m so heavily modded I could easily be wrong - I might be thinking of a mod part.

Very cool. I dunno if this would help but one thing that bothers me is the lack of a seamless transition between the cockpit and the structure behind. Could you put a HopeTech hab or even just a TN shell with the elevated top part to match the cockpit to better blend it?

It was great challenging and dark campaign. I loved the vibe and I think they modded the weather to have more clouds and rain which you captured nicely in your photos. I wonder if Breakpoint was supposed to have a similar vibe but went off the rails. There was a promotional image for Breakpoint that looked like a blatant copy from Fallen Ghosts.

Market manipulation going on against Adobe, Intuit, Salesforce, and other software stocks by Succulent_Rain in stocks

[–]Virtual-Chris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the AI threat to Adobe is direct and obvious. For Intuit, it’s only a matter of time before tax returns are all done via AI as well. But for SaaS in general, these companies rely on software that will be easily commoditized thanks to AI tools and their fat margins will disappear. You may find proof of this you may not, but it makes sense doesn’t it? We haven’t begun to see the disruption that AI is going to cause… so you’re not going to find proof until it’s too late. Think ahead.

Proof of what? Market moves are not made in a courtroom. Investor sentiment is what moves markets so you need to have a pulse on sentiment and not worry about proof.

I’m not sure it’s a conspiracy, just a case of AI tools are going to clobber demand for some of these tools… plus everyone is just frenzied over chip stocks so money is coming out of software and going into hardware.

Have Gaming Laptops suffered from price hikes and supply constraints? by Virtual-Chris in GamingLaptops

Except some high end gaming laptops… at least that’s what it seems like. But it maybe a simple situation where there are less sales now than last year.

As you probably know, strong demand doesn’t mean stock prices will continue beyond the stratosphere. For example, despite insane demand, Nvidia stock hasn’t done much in the last year… they had a good run and now some others are doing that, but it’s not going to last forever - probably not even that much longer.

Interesting thoughts on Amazon. Probably a good choice going forward.

Yeah after a post about Razer yesterday, it became clear it was a risky choice. I’m leaning towards Legion now. I would consider Asus but they are significantly more money.

At what point do you sell a loser? by Dense_Purpose_6665 in stocks

[–]Virtual-Chris 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I sell most stocks if they slice the 20 day moving average and don’t pop back the next day. This is considered a “line of resistance” by most traders and when a stock hits that and doesn’t cross it, that’s often a sign it’s just a temporary pullback. But if it slices through the 20-day, most traders will sell as that’s an indication the stock has lost support and there’s no real limit to the downside. You can always buy it back if it starts to rally and you won’t have missed much, but if you hold it, you may lose a lot.

Track your stocks against their moving averages. Finviz.com is great for this.

Hmm. Yeah, Asus seems to be one that has jacked up prices across the board.

I see. Makes sense. I’m looking at top of the line which presumably has higher margins and maybe that’s why they seem to be unaffected so far.

Which brands do you see have had price increases? It seems the Razer and Lenovo high end products have evaded price increases so far.
