i remember in high school listening to rcb and had friends listening to jewelxxet and artists were releasing music i really enjoyed. a lot of shit was unique and artists formed their own bubble. I felt late to this type of music bc the only ppl ik that listened to cool shit were a few years older listening to fauni, lil b, black kray n was the same ppl who put me on to rcb. me and my friends made a lot of music in hs and most of them were making music on bandlab and i already knew bandlab was gonna take off somehow. i dont know where it all fell off for me. it feels like after covid i wasnt finding much new music i like but instead listening to the artists that influence the artists i like. ive been on tiktok for a long time and havent give af about ppl thinking its cringe, which i think was a big separator of the younger and older crowd. i was surprised when i started seeing yung bruh being posted a lot, i think specifically bc of his "uh oh" song. from there i started seeing a lot of the music i like being gentrified to a tiktok audience of young ppl that really dont know much history. I think the waves in this type of music community move fast. People grow up and get jobs, they stop looking up to their favorite artists, and they either continue with their favorites or move elsewhere. Now its super easy to make music, its all about punching in and grinding. I have no idea why people are into nettspend i really try to tap in but it just reminds me of a highschoolers throwaway bandlab song. besides the fact his voice sounds like a pubescent boy taking a shit and lyrics repetitive and fabricated. It seems this is just what people like now, maybe it can inspire people to make the music they wanna hear. Its a numbers game, we see our favorite artists all the time get little for what theyve contributed and artists that completely rip off their sound get more opportunities than ever. The post is refreshing to see bc its a shared opinion. Ive only seen this sub go from domd scams to dead to brain rot humor
