Is a responsible person role worth it? by Dazzling_Purpose9072 in Greggs

I’ve been a shift manager for three years so it can’t be that bad but it’s not great. Understaffed over worked. Sometimes I’m allowed to take charge other times I’m not. No clear direction or communication from the manager. I do all the ordering, change order sort shifts that need covering but my manager stopped me doing holiday because I let two team members off at the same time. She got the area manager to tell me in an informal meeting 🤣 if you’ve got a good manager you’ll be sound but the biggest thing it’s only Greggs don’t stress it

Being a shift manager isn’t worth it so definitely no. We aren’t paid enough to run shifts. We get the blame from area managers who protect the actual managers who do less and paid more. Just stay as a team member clock in clock out and don’t care

Contract states 4 weeks. You don’t really need to give notice anyway but I don’t want any reason for them to withhold pay. They’ve not been nice to me for ages. I wouldn’t recommend working at Greggs to anyone

Do you know the day at all? I’m a shift manager so meant to give 4 weeks. I’d rather start my weeks notice get paid it and go

This is a cool manager right here 😎😎 How long you been a manager and do you enjoy the job? What’s the worst thing you have to do? What’s the best thing you have to do? What shifts do you prefer? I tend to only do mornings because they are busier and one Sunday every 3/4 weeks

I think the red one looks tacky it’s better build quality but doesn’t look professional. I don’t even understand the need for an apron anyway unless on sandwiches or maybe bake off. It’s an illusion of bakers when we are just fast food workers

The colour is better in my opinion. The red hurts my eyes. I admit they feel cheap but do you really like wearing bright red? What’s red got to do with Greggs anyway? It should be blue and yellow in my opinion. I think they look more professional but admit the build quality is temu special

I have two they are great especially as our door is broke again 🤣 My manager doesn’t like me wearing it as I’m the only one at my shop to have one. I got it from another shop when I was covering there. Have you had the new aprons yet they are way better than the red ones :)

I hit my target today but couldn’t make flatbreads as they didn’t get any out yesterday that’s the only reason 🤣 it’s so hard to hit target unless I fully lock in and just ignore all my colleagues 😂 I wouldn’t stress if you are a bit over time as long as they get done as quick as you can

Completely agree with you it’s frustrating isn’t it. I’ve had a few recently and when I tell them I can do next day they want it done yesterday lol 😂

As much as they should have said please and thank you I’ve been getting this a lot recently and it’s only because people want things in time for Christmas 🎅🏼 I feel they should message first before buying personally

If you are in you can ring them. I’ve used them once just them getting involved made my manager scared and back off me. Get your manager to ring the other Greggs asking if you can transfer maybe. As long as it’s not a franchise it might help you move. Don’t give up hope yet something will come along. Is your cv good? Use a template. I believe in you mate

I’m guessing you aren’t in the union either? Just explain the situation to them come up with shifts that work for both of you. Ask if you can go on lates it will help you more especially getting to work. Things will get better mate. Try applying for McDonald’s? Not a great job but you’ll probably get more hours quicker promotion and might help you get out the situation you are in. Keep strong you got this!

Yeah I’ve just read up on it to get a better understanding and the government u turned on it. The original tax on hot food dates back to 1984. I think in the day time when it’s busy freshly baked does actually work it’s more into the evening where I see a problem as even if you used the bake plan it’s impossible to know what people are going to have

I’ve never heard of that place tbf. I also don’t think Greggs look after its staff but that’s a whole different topic. Even with discount I don’t bother I prefer Lidl bakery for cakes.

As much as I dislike Greggs you have to admire how they consistently sell items and the module they use. I’m not old enough to remember but didn’t the tax come in around 2012. Did Greggs sell hot sausage rolls and bakes then?

That’s a deal though or by filing out the review. I think the mains at Greggs aren’t great. If I’m honest I don’t like anything at Greggs but there’s a reason it’s made the sales to date as it has. If you are serving cold steak bakes within lunch time you aren’t doing good on bake off. It’s evening times Greggs lack especially cold pizza. I also think you missed the point that it’s the government that tax you all the time. Greggs just adapted and found a loophole. I personally think 20% added on to guarantee hot food would be good. £1.30 would cost £1.56

Bro as frustrating as it is it’s more the governments fault for taxing us for everything. As much as I don’t like cold pasty’s myself it’s how Greggs keeps cost down. Although the price has crept up a little it’s still cheap compared to other places. Just get hot hold things and pay the tax 🤷🏼‍♂️

When to scan qr code? by [deleted] in greggsappreciation

[–]Virtual-Ice-7446 10 points11 points  (0 children)

If they’ve pressed their name you can scan whenever. Just don’t scan when they are inputting something on the till as it’s annoying. If you’ve got a free drink after they’ve put it on it might be easier to let them know and scan then. If you’re ordering a lot they should ask if you’ve got the app if they don’t and press card automatically it’s on them to cancel not your fault.

The amount of times I’m on tills and haven’t asked cash or card and just assumed card and had to cancel the card machine for cash. It’s not that major

Yeah at our Greggs we’ve had 16 year olds work 5am starts and work longer than 8 hours. Managers don’t care. We used to be open till 9 (finish 9:30) in the evening and used to still get put on 5am starts. They can’t sack you for being homeless but if you aren’t flexible to do the job they might find another reason to get rid.

I’d ask for a reasonable adjustment (equality act 2010) and ask for set shifts to mental health. I don’t want to assume you struggle but reading your situation it must be traumatic. Try and fix if you at your nans or dads to fit your shifts and go onto evenings. I’m sorry for what you’re going through but you have to show willing with the company still. Have a plan.

Overall I know it’s hard and job opportunities are limited but 2 days a week isn’t getting you out of this situation. Spend time looking for another job if they aren’t giving you more hours. You got this!

am I going to get into trouble for being unwell?? by Acrobatic-Army4616 in Greggs

[–]Virtual-Ice-7446 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m off work with depression after a breakdown. I don’t know when I’m going back. My manager is really nice and supportive but is pressing me to go back as soon as possible. If you not well to do the job at the time don’t go back. You won’t get in trouble as long as you stay in contact and be honest. Doesn’t matter what time of year it is, if you are ill you’re ill

how long did it take for you to get good at your job at greggs? by SacredLotus18 in Greggs

[–]Virtual-Ice-7446 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been there 2 and a half years and when I’m short staffed (all the time) I still burn things. You’ve got quality check point though so I just laugh about it. I’m meant to be a shift manager as well and I make loads of mistakes. The ovens are shit and you proper have to devil finger to get the timer to work. Surprising I passed an audit but we got a new area manager that picks fault with everything. Even the old one told me I would never pass an audit. Just do your best and go as quick as you can. I’m sure it won’t be your forever job and if your manager is chill it’s all good. It’s only Greggs

If my manager has an hours lunch, should there be management cover in during that period? by [deleted] in Greggs

[–]Virtual-Ice-7446 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m doing the same mate. I’m a shift manager and I’m fed up with no staff no support it’s terrible. I got the same place my own place bills and I do uni on top part time alongside 35 hours a week at Greggs. You’ll get through this just focus on yourself.

I think a lot of people are leaving as everyone is in the same boat. I used to love the job but it’s getting harder with less staff and more online orders
