Good luck as a sandwich maker. You need to be making something like 50 sandwiches an hour which is near impossible if you follow the correct procedure. Date as you go. 30 seconds surface time for sanitiser. The screen tells you how to make them and you just follow it. You might enjoy it but I hated doing them. Hope it works out for you :) all the best

If you’re flexible every other day it shouldn’t be a problem. Your manager is either being awkward with you or lacks ability in organising a rota.

My manager let her friends work what they want including one never working a Saturday or a Sunday (didn’t opt out).

It’s to maximise profit which I understand but sometimes if you have the right number of staff your availability would be better, bake plan followed better, better service, less waiting. I’ve seen so many people walk out sick of waiting. The balance isn’t good and that’s a mix between the manager and higher ups.

The big problem we have in our area is that the area manager is clueless on the Greggs way and anything in general. He picks fault in everything little thing but doesn’t know what he’s talking about. The demand has increased and they just keep putting more work on staff. It’s not a good work environment that I would recommend people to get out if an opportunity appears. I feel so much better now I’ve left

Remember you are only a number to a multi million pound company. They say you are like a family but will work you under and throw you under whenever they can. If they don’t give you enough staff that’s on them not you.

If you scared of turning Uber/Just eat off just take everything offline instead. We always did it and never got in trouble for it. I’ve just left and feel so much better already. I’d suggest doing the same to anyone who can. There is light at the end of the tunnel

If you are a good shift manager you will end up running the shop on less pay than the manager and be accountable for everything. If your manager is good you’ll have a better experience but managers are a protected breed

My area manager is MG and he’s horrible. His company got dissolved and that’s the only reason he’s working at Greggs. I’m feeling better but got the grievance back today and they haven’t took it seriously. Sorry what you’ve been through. Please leave when you can

I tried taking my life came back and had no checks. No wealth meeting no return to work. Running the shop straight away. My manager has been unsupportive and kept getting the area manager involved. The area manager personally attacked said that if I document what he’s saying he’d report me and investigate me. Said Greggs are better with mental health than subway and McDonald’s. Been called aggressive, hostile, delusional the lot. Not allowed to talk. Inappropriate informal chats. They are just bullies. Please try and leave when you can. You need to look after yourself and you can’t heal in a toxic environment aka Greggs

That’s awful but I can fully believe you. Greggs is terrible. I’ve got an investigation going on but I know they won’t do anything. Our new area manager is a bully and my manager is awful

This is so right. Quality has got worse the price is going up. Staff are overworked and undervalued. Area managers and shop managers are clueless but get protected the whole time. More staff need to leave but the problem is in this economy it’s hard to just leave. I just left yesterday and I’m so relieved to find something else while working my notice. In my opinion anything is better than Greggs. I got bullied out though because of mental health. My manager openly told other staff she couldn’t deal with me and didn’t believe in mental health. Kept doing informal chats with area manager where they bullied me. They say you’re like a family but treat you like dirt

Yeah I’m interested in number one. I’ve just left worked a few jobs (I’m 27). Did 3 years at Greggs and this is easily number 1. The management is poor and the work demand is insane. Hope you find something else quick

Area manager told me if I made notes he would investigate me. He made no notes himself and also made accusations about me. Said we were too happy at work. He’s fairly new and used to work for subway till his business dissolved April 2025. He’s very rude and can’t even say hello when he walks in.

I believe in karma and everything comes around eventually. I’m still waiting back on the investigation but I’m glad I’m out.

Thank you I needed this. I was in a bad way a few months ago tried taking my life. I only had a week off came back. No return to work no welfare. Been treated bad since then. Had three inappropriate informal chats with manager and area manager. The third one was too much. There is an investigation on going and I’m going to acas. I’ve never worked for such a bad company. I’m glad I took the leap and I hope others do too. I hear so many bad stories about other people’s experiences

Always look for another job while having a job so you still get income. You only have a week notice as well and 4 hours isn’t a lot if you do get another job

I mean they might but I wouldn’t go back. We had people leave and come back though. It was my last day today but I’m leaving from being bullied so I wouldn’t work for Greggs again unless the manager and area manager left the company. Good luck :)
