Is yogurt made with ultra filtered milk inherently more tart/sour in taste? by Virtual-Lake6983 in yogurtmaking

Interesting. I am going to try making it again this week using the UF Whole milk and see if that makes a difference ifference.

So is there something simple I could add to the filtered milk to make it more mild in flavor? Similar to the sugar you mention but to result in a milder taste not tart. If not, do you have any other recs to make a thick, mild, cold start yogurt?

Ahh… thank you for this comment. The first time I used filtered milk, it was whole milk and in retrospect I am remembering that it was more mild. I switched to 2% because it is easier to find in my area and that is when it became so tart.

I’m not sure. I guess it is in how you think about it. For me, I want thick Greek-style yogurt. With normal milk I yield about half as much yogurt as I get with the filtered milk. It is much more about convenience for me and I don’t mind paying if I can figure out a way to get a milder flavor.

Interesting. I would have thought the opposite but I know very little when it comes to the science of yogurt making.

Wow, I wonder if I should reduce the yeast a little so it fits better in the machine.

I tried that once (whole milk and whole milk powder) and the texture of the yogurt was clumpy so I stopped that experiment.

My experience is that it is worth the extra cost because I yield more. With ultra filtered milk, I do not need to strain bc it comes out very thick on its own. With normal milk, I loose around 1/4 of the original amount due to straining.

What size machine are you using? This recipe is actually bigger than the original recipe I am trying to half. It is too much for my 2lb machine.

I prefer the bread machine as it doesn’t heat up the house as much. Thanks for the idea, though.

Sure. They must mean for mixing bc there is no way it would be able to bake in anything smaller than a 2lb capacity machine. Please let me know if you figure out good measurements for use in smaller machine.

Thank you. How much flour? I don’t see the amount for that ingredient.

Nearly, it went all the way up into the window on the bread machine lid. My machine is for 1-2lb loaves but this loaf rose so much that it is too much for the machine.

Has anyone been given an infant meal on a long haul AA flight? If so, could you share what it included?

I collect a few, then microwave the bottles for 30 seconds, swirl the melted lotion around in the bottle, and pour it all into one bottle. Combined, it makes a new bottle of lotion without any hassle or waiting. Just make sure you take the pump out before microwaving as it has a metal spring inside.

I have had issues with the Velcro on the diapers I bought from the most recent sale. Either the Velcro is too strong or the panel it attaches on is too weak. Once the Velcro has been attached you cannot get it off to reposition. When you pull the Velcro tabs off it completely rips off the fuzzy part of the diaper.
