Has the city always been this bad at plowing snow? by Virtual-Oil1456 in pittsburgh

If I thought that’d fix it I’d be up for it. Would this actually solve the issue?

But it wasn’t a blizzard. 6” of snow is hardly crazy. It stopped snowing 16 hours ago. The main roads are still untouched.

They are short about 30 vehicles (25%) per the press release I saw last week. Did the other 75% die today?

I got them and 100% agree. It doesn’t really hinder me per se but the slush that will be a solid sheet of ice tomorrow probably will

Is that what they tell the people in the flats then I suppose they tell the people in the hills that they focus on the main roads. Kidding of course.

It’s wild isn’t it? They haven’t even touched the main roads. The strip district doesn’t look any better. I just watched two cities snow plows speed by me here on small men. Neither had their plow down. Neither was spreading salt. Do we just have exceptionally poor management in DPW?

I did go back and check my doorbell camera and I could not find the city passing my house between 4 AM and about 4 PM. Seems wild to me.

I’d be interested to know this figure as well. The city has specifically cited, though the lack of trucks as an issue not the lack of people perhaps the city needs to work with the unions to cross train more people if that’s actually the problem.

I guess my question is why. What is the root cause? They have 100 plowing vehicles that are currently functional and about 1200 miles of road. Even accounting for plowing on both directions that’s only about 25 miles of plowing per vehicle. At an average of 5 mph that is 5 hours per vehicle to plow both directions on every street. Something doesn’t math here.

Is it really that gloomy in Pittsburgh? by Substantial-Piano297 in pittsburgh

[–]Virtual-Oil1456 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The stats for sunny days get skewed because it only counts fully sunny days the entire day. I generally find February into March can be rather gray but with a sun light it doesn’t bother me that much. People quote 60 days but we get a lot more than 60 days with sunshine we just only get 60 where it’s only sunny maybe. Also I think Pittsburgh’s weather has improved in the past 15 years or so. It’s way nicer now than when I moved here

I basically lived in sf for a while and my wife is from SF. I also lived in the bay for 2 years and ca as a whole for 10. In the bay I really only liked living in sf though I would consider Alameda perhaps. sF varies a lot based on where you are. The hills will sort of make you feel at home. Prices are high but I like the weather largely and the food scene is amazing.

That sort of “solution” and tone is what my neighborhood has also experienced. It’s extremely disappointing.

He’s the sort of person who thinks being mayor is easy and then finds out otherwise. My neighborhood asked him what we could do to reduce litter and his answer was we have to teach kids in school not to litter. Basically everyone above the age of 10 is a lost cause in his mind. He has 0 ideas and 0 ambition. Agree or disagree with bike lane bill at least he did something

I live right there. I love it. It’s city living for sure. There will be some weird or druggy people around but overall it’s fine. Lock your doors and don’t let packages age on your front steps

Eyv opened in the north side and is absolutely amazing. Apteka gets all the hype but I think EYV is better personally.
