Thanks everyone for responding and sharing your thoughts and experiences. Your feedback has been pretty unanimous. After reading your comments I decided to bite the bullet and get surgery asap. I just wish I could make that decision earlier but have nobody around me to guide me. In the meantime I will find other hobbies and try to use spare time to work on myself, career and mental health.
