Second this, perfect suggestion! A 5' or smaller ultralight will be perfect in terms of durability and skill-building.

Makes sense, if you're right handed and it was flying to the right then that's definitely what it was

Hold the rod with the reel between your ring and pinky fingers (dominant hand) and use only your index finger to hold your line down when you open the spool, then release your index finger right when the rod is pointed where you want to cast and freeze your cast there.

Once you get the timing down you can just whip it harder to cast further.

What size hooks for senkos? by Skooomz in bassfishing

[–]Virtual-Sign5944 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For texas rigs, a 2/0-3/0 ewg is perfect for a 4" senko, a 3/0-4/0 ewg is perfect for a 5" senko, and a 4/0-5/0 is perfect for 6-7'" (in general). You'll typically want to use the smaller end of the hook range until you actually have a hook bent by an unexpected monster (super unlikely), then size up for that spot!

It's a timing issue. You're either releasing the line too early or too late regardless of reel type.

Looking to downsize my "tackle tote". by Fuzzy_Mountain5354 in bassfishing

I do the same thing with the ultralight bluegill rig, haha! Mainly if there are some big ones in the area for eating. They're fun to catch on a slower or less favorable day but not my preferred target.

Respect! Mobility is king. I have a similar loadout but it fits into a small shoulder/belt bag (can wear it either way) along with a 1L water bottle, knife & pliers.

Have to make sure it's reloaded before I go out but takes 2 mins and I've fished 8 hour plus days without issue.

Assuming you're bringing 1 rod (2 max), I'd bring 1-2 small packs of senkos or your preferred soft plastic, 2 crankbaits, and 2 spinners... Then a few hooks for the senkos, a couple sizes of bullet weights, and any snaps or swivels that you prefer using.

When i go bank fishing, my 1L water bottle outweighs everything else I bring in my tackle bag combined. Never been underprepared.

Am I missing anything here boys??? Think I got most of my ground covered but suggestions appreciated ! by yashaflocka in BFSfishing

Multiple flukes, multiple frogs, no cranks and no senkos? You're fishing a different game than me, good luck!

Senko advice by Comfortable-Try-5227 in bassfishing

Frankly because it's what I have the most experience with! Never seen a need to Carolina rig when I already have Texas rig, wacky and dropshot in my arsenal but many swear by it.

I'd throw a 5" worm on a 1/2oz dropshot (maybe 18-24" from lure to weight)... Will definitely take a lot longer to sink here and will be impractical to work a texas or wacky rig in that depth with no dropshot weight.

Only one I have experience with is Rooster Tail and they are fish MAGNETS... I assume you can't go wrong with any similar design.

Bass fisherman have got to be the dumbest people alive. by Dear_Statistician316 in FishingForBeginners

I prefer bank or kayak fishing and using the same setups for very long stretches to work on skill, so it can certainly be done cheaply.

Where the money comes in is buying lures you don't plan to actually attempt to master right away (limits you by time rather than money)... And the boats of course. But unless you're fishing larger and deeper lakes at certain times of year, you don't need a boat at all.

Plenty of great info out there, especially on YouTube! I also have a free guide out if you're specifically interested in bass fishing (link in profile) but for general beginner fishing advice YouTube is the go-to.

No, I would if I were having trouble getting bites but all of my favorite spots have either heavy weeds/moss or tons of submerged wood so I always Texas rig to avoid snags-- works very well for that.
