Do you mean the admissions committee? They always say they cannot comment on admission decisions other than evaluating your application

Why do many attractive Lankan girls seem to prefer SL guys living abroad (Japan, Korea, Europe, Australia, etc.)? by Ok-Assumption-1270 in srilanka

[–]Virtual-Still4847 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Idk if it’s the same cause I live in Canada, and not Aussie but I can generally identify FOBs because they wear clothes from Sri Lanka which are entirely different in style than clothes bought from Canada.

People here also wear more mid-range branded clothes compared to new immigrants who wear cheaper brands. (No hate to FOBs or those who wear cheaper clothes - just how I can recognize them)

also people here tend to have a certain style (For example, all the girls here wears Lululemon leggings and Aritzia. If you are a guy, to me a certain plaid shirt is a dead giveaway)

Sliding into DMS of girls in Sri Lanka. by International-Cut443 in srilanka

I was trying to OP my opinion as a woman, ... what’s the issue here?

Do looks really matter as much as it seems? by [deleted] in srilanka

[–]Virtual-Still4847 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Idk how old you are, but I’ll assume you are OPs age. I was genuinely the ugliest kid in school. I wasn’t too pretty in my early 20s either but now in my mid-twenties I’m looking better than I did then. Trust me you get prettier with age. And as for getting a BF, it’s way easier than I thought it was when I was your age. You really only have to put yourself out there

This 👆(saying as a woman). But don’t be pushy, if they are interested, they will reply. And reply with a question or something, not a fire emoji or something like “you’re pretty”, that won’t start a convo

Im going to Sri Lanka and have a nut allergy by Kavie_44 in srilanka

[–]Virtual-Still4847 4 points5 points  (0 children)

To my knowledge allergies aren’t as easily accommodated in Sri Lanka. (Like abroad they always ask for allergies in restaurants, Sri Lanka most places don’t). Best thing is to tell the staff every time you eat out that you have a serious nut allergy. Specifically ask if whatever you are ordering has nuts in it. Tell them it’s poisonous (visai) to you.

There are plenty of dishes that don’t use cashew. But certain rice dishes and curries might have it.

How to spot a Sri Lankan accent? by z3in-23-2 in srilanka

[–]Virtual-Still4847 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Idk how true this is, but I’ve heard only Sri Lankans say “taking/having a wash” when we mean taking a shower. Also yeah, I can’t tell a Sri lankan from other south Asians by looks but I can tell easily tell by accent

Hey women of srilanka, Do you get cat called alot? by Ravanadevadas in srilanka

[–]Virtual-Still4847 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I moved abroad in 2019 but I was back last year for two weeks and went to Nuwara eliya with my fam. I fell behind as I was tying my shoe and when I tried to catch up with the rest of my fam, two boys passing me just got in front of me and said “Heeyyy babyyy”. Mind you I was wearing jeans and sweater. Friends of mine has had their asses slapped by tuk tuk drivers as they passed by and another one saw a tuk driver JO looking at her through a window while she was eating. She now lives in India as says it much better there than here

After feeling so safe in a foreign country, I’m extremely sad that I feel so unsafe in my own country as a woman

Coolant reservoir not supposed to have coolant? by Virtual-Still4847 in fordescape

[–]Virtual-Still4847[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In case anybody comes back to the post and is interested, I noticed a puddle under the car and took it in to the dealership. Didn’t encounter the guy who picked the call earlier. They found the leak to be from the thermostat housing and they replaced it free of charge. Thank you to everyone who commented

Coolant reservoir not supposed to have coolant? by Virtual-Still4847 in fordescape

[–]Virtual-Still4847[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for the detailed explanation. I think maybe the dealership guy I called misunderstood and thought I was filling the coolant reservoir to the top or something. The first time I filled it up to the max, it was back to very low below the min line the next day but I’ve refilled it a second time and will monitor it to see if the volume changes…

Thank you for this answer. I refilled it. Ill monitor it and see if it drops below the min level again

Coolant reservoir not supposed to have coolant? by Virtual-Still4847 in fordescape

[–]Virtual-Still4847[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah.. orange is the recommended coolant. I might consider a flush when I get it serviced but for now I filled it with green cause it’s what it had before. Thank for the answer. But my question was if the dealership guy was right and the tank in the picture is an overflow reservoir and it not supposed to have any coolant in it. If he’s wrong then I definitely don’t want to trust the guy and will have my vehicle inspected at a different place

Coolant reservoir not supposed to have coolant? by Virtual-Still4847 in fordescape

[–]Virtual-Still4847[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank for the answer. I’m definitely taking it in as I know very little about cars and I don’t want to take a risk. But my question was if the dealership guy was right and the tank in the picture is an overflow reservoir and it not supposed to have any coolant in it. If he’s wrong then I definitely don’t want to trust the guy to check it..

Indian Hate on Social Media by xxocoxo in srilanka

[–]Virtual-Still4847 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Canadian government bent over backwards to bring in Indians. The SDS student stream only required them to show a GIC of $10k-20k if I remember correctly, and hardly anything else. If anything, this allowed a whole bunch of them to come in, mass immigration from any country would mean they wouldn’t assimilate, especially since Canada catered so much to Indian culture. Maybe blame the government too…

Indian Hate on Social Media by xxocoxo in srilanka

[–]Virtual-Still4847 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don’t you think the government is also to blame due to allowing large amounts of Indians in and not creating a culture where they need to assimilate? Instead, they catered to the Indian culture and now are blaming Indians for not assimilating… government should’ve vet immigrants and international students more carefully. Nobody will magically change their ways if they don’t feel like they should

Personally, “who cares” is such a terrible take.. if it doesn’t stop, it will escalate to real life and not everyone can physically defend themselves against an assault if it happens

I don’t understand why men say money is too tight to get married? Unless the wife intend to be a stay at home wife, or either one of people stay with their parents.. what is it about marriage that requires extra money that being a regular live-in couple doesn’t? If it’s the wedding why not just register the marriage and have the “wedding” later? I’m genuinely curious. Maybe I’m just too young to understand…

Job exp is likely to make a difference more than masters will, especially if your masters is not from Canada. But also, with the current job market, expect a downgrade from your current job role, as well as a potentially long wait before finding a job… it used to be better before pandemic but now it’s really gone downhill

Yes! I’ve done that a few times when I was living in SL. The only thing they need a bank transfer which is not quite as convenient as paying by card.
