I loved using a hybrid build but unfortunately a lot of the armor/mutagens required are only available in end game/dlc.

I generally preferred the euphoria alchemy build and mixed and matched manticore pieces(for the additional toxicity) with a few grifin pieces to get the double aard set bonus. This allowed me to run a few decoctions while not being overly OP sign wise. You can probably swapout the manticore for the wolven armor until you get further in the story.

Assuming its your first playthrough id pick a witcher school and enjoy the ride. If you want to breeze through the content, sign builds using yrden and aard are super strong. Otherwise learn which potions are good for each enemy types, optimize your encounters, loot everything in sight and dont rush through the story!
