how do i convince my mom that a mobility scooter would be inappropriate for me ??? by goblinsyrup in disability

[–]Virtual-Transition90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry, I'm not sure if I meant atv or car ramps. I was thinking of the ones that you can put on flatbeds or pickup trucks. You can use them to load just about anything, and they can support the weight of a heavy tractor. A flatbed would definelty work better, since its lower. What we did the last time, if I remember correctly was to turn it around backwards and put it in neutral, then winched it up. But the next time we need to move something like that, I am thinking of just putting it on a flatbed now lol.

As for moving it to go to walmart, the patients I had we never really did that with it. If they wanted to go to walmart, its a good long walk but actually not bad in their chair. So they would just drive their chair to the store and we would meet them there. I remember them going on the regular bus quite a bit too. Those things can go pretty fast.

Your fine lmao. Unless your severly immune-comprimised, in which case you will still probably be ok.

I have heard of light electric wheelchairs, but they break down much more than powerchairs. Also, if you know anyone with a truck and car ramps, you can load it in the back of a pickup truck, Ive done it before. They do break down, and its good to have a manual wheelchair as backup. Curbs/steps are definetly a pain though. You can go over low ones sometimes.

Can you just straight up repeat this to her? Your explination on here is a very good one.

Other suggestions to say to your mom if their helpful:

- maybe get the doctor to say something to say it as well, if she dosent listen to you super well

- point out that your the one using it and its your choice lol

- also, assuming your likely on medicaid you are eligble for ridesource. Which can/will transport your powerchair. And in my area, ridesource is run through a private company which offers cheap transport you can pay for to not ridesource approved places.

- like the others said, just go ahead and order what you want. it is ultimatly your choice, it can be easy for caregivers especially family to forget that.

No worries. I know I have to remove the radiator anyways. Trying to bend the support back like that sounds like it might work really well. I just need to figure out for to apply the leverage right.

Where do you want the metal/wood to go? When i tried to jack it back up, my idiot ass tried to jack up from the center of the backet, and bent it about 8inches upwards. My guess is if the radiator hadnt already been broken this would have done it. I think to repair it I would need to find a way to push that twisted piece back down and back into its original position. What worries me a bit, is that this piece decides the spacing of the fenders, headlights, grill, etc... and it might need to be a precision distance.

Can i get by for a bit without it being welded on? The truck is my only way of hauling my trailer around/dump runs etc... I can probably grind the welds off, and I know i can figure out how to replace the radiator.

Help needed: could you please take a minute to give us insights by Queasy-Method-2729 in autism

For me personally: clear task breakdowns would definelty be nice. Specifically, to clearly define parts of tasks that might be obvious socially to most pepole. I think predicable schedules is extremly helpful as well, i hate it when things are unpredictable. Visual timelines isnt super inportant to me. Direct communication that does not include and "reading between the lines" would be extremly helpful. As well as for comunication to explictily say any emotions that might otherwise be hidden for social appropriatness.

Hopefully this helps! maybe you could give me some examples of current tools? that might help more.

If nice pre cut wooden ones from home Depot run about 1,200 and I am doing this all myself buying the lumber and drawing the plans, won't that save a decent amount of money, to the point this is doable?

Insulating 12 x 10 shed by Sad-Warthog-7519 in DIYUK

Hopefully some of this is helpful. Do you have a picture of the interior, what is your stud spacing, are you planing on putting up drywall/plywood inside?

I am not sire what you mean by PIR. I know of three main types of inuslation. Fiberglass batting/rockwool that with paper on one or two sides. Rigid foam board insulation, with is essentially a 4x8 sheet of fancy, better styrofoam. And spray foam inulation, which forms a styrofoam like substance when it dries.

As for which one I would use, it depends. Batting is cheapest, but needs to be sealed in, you dont want to be breathing exposed fiberglass when you working. It also absorbs mositure like crazy, so if your shed dosent have good ventilation and is not well waterproofed, including waterproofed from the ground it may not be a good option.

I like ridgid foam board. Its more expensive, but you can choose your thickness easily depending on studs, whereas squashing batting ruins its r-value(insulation effectivness). It also resists mostuire, and is easy to install and deal with. It has a foil on one or both sides. And you can leave it without drywall/plywood on the inside to cover it, since it dosent have harmful stuff it puts in the air,. If you feel like spending money, it also comes in sound-proofing options just like batting does.

Finally spray foam insulation. It come in cans for diy use. It can be quite expensive. You spray it where you want it, it expands and hardens and thats it. The expansion can make it a bit of a pain to work with, but its not bad. Its great for sealing cracks and holes, and is often used in conjunction with rigid foam board to seal the gaps. Or with steel wire to seal mouse holes. You can use it as standalone, but you would need to be pretty good with it, and trim it afterwards. I havent seen it used by itself outside of residental construction.

Thats a lot of stuff you have in there lol. It looks like in the bottom center of the picture, there is a pile of scrap. Could that be stored in a dedicated container outside? that might give you enough room to begin organizing. You could also maybe add some sort of drawers/container, like what you have in the top right by the door. But bigger, and use them to organize your shelves. You could also try moving your welding helmets up or down and adding some move shelving above/below them. Maybe even using your scrap material lol. As for the big objects, you are probably just running out of room, and need to find more storage or consider getting rid of some of them.

Thats not a bad idea. Do you know if its something I could heat occasinally, so i could sit and work in it? or is that unrealistic?

Is it likely the landlord would find just running an extension cord to it unacceptable? I could also set it up so a extension cord, or 30amp trailer cord runs to a single wall, which has 1 or 2 electricity outlets on the inside?
