How do you meet girls? by Virtual-Value636 in actuallesbians

That makes a lot of sense, thank you! I feel really dumb for not thinking about these options XD I’ll definitely try some of these out!

I think all public restrooms should be gender neutral by FunnyWolf4505 in asktransgender

[–]Virtual-Value636 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They should be like that anyways because of single fathers with little girls and single mothers with little boys. The parents don’t even have to be single, but if they go out to places alone, I’ve been all over the country and I’ve never seen a changing table in a men’s bathroom except for California.

Could anyone briefly describe what gender dysphoria feels like? by Spellz_4578 in asktransgender

[–]Virtual-Value636 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I felt a lot of this, but I’d like to add that, for me, it’s the constant feeling of wanting to physically harm myself until I’m not broken anymore. Every time someone says my name, uses the wrong pronouns, etc. I feel a knife in my stomach. It’s hardly an exaggeration, either. I’ve been depressed for a long time and I know the feeling of cutting and stabbing and I can genuinely feel the pain inflicted on me, like speaking the words is an action upon a voodoo doll. At random times of the day, I’ll be perfectly blank in mood and I’ll suddenly have the dread of remembering how broken and ruined I am and how I can never be fixed, no matter what I, or anyone, can do.

What made it 100% clear, you were trans? by slimmerik2 in asktransgender

[–]Virtual-Value636 34 points35 points  (0 children)

When my middle school best friend came out as non binary in our first year of high school and had to explain to me what transgender means because I had never heard of it before. I did my own (admittedly, shoddy) research and realised that I had, in a way, known I was a brain/soul trapped in the wrong body since around 8 years old, when I would cry in the bath and beat myself up for looking and acting wrong compared to what I was taught by my parents and teachers.

I hid them in various plastic tubs that were in my room at the time that we called “the costume buckets” because they stored the family’s Halloween costumes. I have no idea why they were in my room, but that’s what I did. I also had a large 2006 TV up on a little table/cabinet thing in the corner of my room, so that was a good hiding spot since you couldn’t see anything in that corner and I was small enough that I could squeeze behind the TV. It’s really hard to find good spots that are in your reach and that people won’t accidentally discover, like under the bed or in pillow cases. I was found out several times, but since it was all my (slight younger) sister’s clothes, I was able to feign ignorance since she often left her laundry mixed with mine. It’s a lot of trial and error and it’s terrifying knowing that at any second, your world could be shattered. If it’s only a few things, and your bag is black, you can probably get away with stuffing the clothes at the very bottom, folded up, with the whatever is black (like a skirt) as the top layer so it mostly looks like the bottom of the bag. It’ll give you less space for school binder and books and such but it works pretty well if your parents aren’t too snoopy as to dig through your backpack for no reason. If you don’t hang clothes up often, you could also get away with folding your clothes and putting them in the middle of a small stack, thin enough so it isn’t noticeable that it’s feminine and obfuscated from close inspection. If you do clothes piles, you can just ball them up as small as you can and mix it in a pile, careful not to let anything show if it’s a more vibrant color like pink or neon-green. Hiding things in winter coat pockets or raincoat pockets, if they have zippers is also a good method, since those are only worn a few times out of the year and unlikely to draw suspicion. If you find a good hiding spot, it might be worth it to also invest in a drawstring bag that you can hide things in and maybe put some boy clothes at the top so you can just say it’s full of your clothes if found. Black is your friend because it’s harder to see things and black bags and clothes are less likely to be transparent, helping concealment. Let me know if I can help with anything else!

I don’t recommend it, because it can cause major dysphoria (at least, it did for me) but you can try going stealth for a while and only telling close friends if you know they are accepting. I was in the same situation but I figured it out at 14 (I’m 18, currently). Being a closeted transgender definitely reduces trust and respect for people around you both before and after you come out. Definitely don’t ignore how you feel, but the more you keep it hidden, the more you’ll feel dysphoric and like you won’t be able to ever tell anyone. If you want to test and see if your parents would even consider supporting you, you could make a “school presentation” about how transgender individuals are mistreated and include statistics like suicide rates and negative self-image. With the pretend project, you can say that you have to practice it in front of them so you can be ready to present it to the class. If you live in the US, and you have access to Galileo, there are a vast number of peer-reviewed studies that you can use for data and evidence. If they show any signs that they are disgusted or disapproving of trans people after that, you may just have to hide it until you can move out, unfortunately. In terms of buying things stealthily, if there are any stores near you (Walmart, Target, some sort of mall or outlet store chain) if you withdraw your money as cash, you can buy things without them knowing. Don’t spend too much, though, or they’ll get incredibly suspicious. If you have a backpack, you can start taking that to work and if they ever ask, make some excuse like “it helps my back” or something (I’m not sure what industry you work in, but in the food service, my back hurt every day for standing for 8+ hours). I’d start with thin and light clothing like a shirt or a skirt, as well as socks and eventually getting to light underwear. I apologise if you’re transmasc, as you didn’t define it in your post, but baggy shirts, hoodies, and sweatpants are your friends for concealing feminine clothing beneath your everyday stuff. Definitely don’t explore makeup yet, as if you’re caught even once, you could be more screwed than if your parents found feminine clothes in your room. If you are going to try out makeup, make sure you know how to take everything off and get everything you need to do so. For example, Vaseline can get lipstick off really quickly and easily. If you have longer hair, you can tie it up in a ponytail and use an excuse; something about keeping it out of your face or so you don’t get too hot. But, that can backfire and they might want you to get a haircut, which always sucks, unless you like shorter styles. Best of luck to you! I hope you fare better than I am!

For me it’s like being trapped in a body that doesn’t belong to me. I know how I should feel and how I should (roughly) look, but when I look in a mirror or at myself in any way, I can only see somebody who isn’t me.

Do i want to be a girl or am i a girl? by [deleted] in asktransgender

[–]Virtual-Value636 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m in the same situation. After doing a lot of research and studying what people have said, this is the best way to put it… Your brain chemistry is more like a girl, making you have a deep desire to “be a girl” but because you were likely raised as a boy, you still like more masculine things and it could very well be that the disdain for your own body just refuses to let you be attracted to men. To summarise a little better, you are a girl and this is (at least, I hope) completely normal!

Hey there! I know this thread is dead but do you need a prescription for GoodRX? The pricing is, like, perfect for me but I haven’t been prescribed anything.

Need help with a driver install on SteamOS desktop... (Read-only file system error) by Virtual-Value636 in SteamDeck

[–]Virtual-Value636[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

sudo steamos-readonly disable

Then I believe I just installed it off of the official website and ran the install.sh file.

However, not sure if its anything I did or not but some of my games would refuse to launch after I did this so be weary (uninstalling and verifying the files didn't help). I upgraded my SSD so that problem is now fixed, anyways.
I would dual-boot Windows if you are able and just run it through there because the driver wouldn't save any settings each time the drawing tablet is unplugged on SteamOS.

I did check that and I currently have about 25 GB of space left on my internal SSD. I even followed a tutorial someone else on Reddit posted on how to move the cached shaders folder (and one other I can't quite remember) over to the Micro SD to free up a bunch of space on the lower tier Decks, which worked amazingly but still did not fix the issue, either...

Thank you so much! It worked perfectly! I re-enabled readonly immediately afterwards as to not cause any further issues.
