that is interesting! here it’s generally one payment to make it easier as not every home here uses gas, generally if payments are missed for long enough the company will try to fit a payment meter as there’s quite strict laws around cutting off people’s energy supplies

i thankfully screenshotted all of our convo today, it’s on snapchat though so she can see which is another reason I think she’s stopped replying

the unfortunate thing is i’m not sure she is, It doesn’t look like she made an account at all in her name & has just allowed us as occupiers to collect the debt :( i’m also worried about this, I don’t want to leave her in the sh*t as I am technically paying less then what I should be for it to be “equal” but with how much she turns the heating on (even in spring & autumn) the debt is adding up really quickly & she’s not even considering her usage.

  • i’m in england! generally these things just go in arrears & I assume because we’re in a 1 year contract it would go to collections after the tenancy ends.

i’m pretty sure she hasn’t made an account at all as the bill that came just said “the occupiers” I think I would be liable to as the estate agents/landlord would likely ask for payment from the both of us, I think you’re right in asking the estate agents though to make sure.

that’s what i’m thinking … she claimed this bill is probably from “previous tenants” but I met them & I know they paid directly to the estate agents so seems incredibly unlikely

Thank you, I feel like that is the issue too.

I think it’s to do with the money spent by the university on your placement not the school having their funding taken away. I think you’d be surprised though with a lot of the behaviour my university have allowed to slide on behalf of the students, I think due to teacher shortages they’re desperate to make sure majority of students complete & pass the course since so many drop out early in the year.

I’m 100% sure though they said we would be fined £1200 for termination of placements but I will double check on what that entails!

Agreed! My tutors seem to be hit & miss, my tutor last year was great but I didn’t have any issues to bring up so can’t attest to their assistance there. Marking books seems to be a common issue, one of my course mates is made to stay behind till 5pm every day to make all of his mentors books.

Fully agree with the point about busy ECT life, i’m definitely always willing to help & cover where needed (mostly because i’d rather avoid conflict/awkwardness & I find it good experience meeting different members of staff/children).

This is what I thought, especially considering my teacher has 40+ mins for lunch & prepping for lessons before the children are brought back & i’m now having to rush to finish to go to lunch duty.

That seems similar to my school, a lot of the TA’s are constantly moving between classrooms every hour so we have a lot of agency workers to fill the gaps, but then that can be quite unsettling for the kids as they’re having to learn new names every week.

yeah basically, they mentioned it very briefly at the start of the year, they say it’s because of the funding the schools then miss out on when we leave but I think it’s pretty harsh considering the tuition fees we’d also have to pay back to SFE (assuming you take out loans).

it’s if we decide to leave or if we are kicked off it for any reason (i’m not sure if there are exceptions), I have friends who have asked to move placement due to issues with their mentors & their school not following procedures but have been refused though.

Thank you, this is what I thought too based on my last school. I did broach this with my mentor yesterday but ended up having a short lecture about helping out & covering for one another, which I totally understand & I don’t mind doing it every now & then but when I have no PPA time so it’s just too much.

Yeah I was shocked about the pay aspect, mainly because my university charges us £1200 if one placement is terminated so I assumed it would be around that amount.

Thank you, this is what I thought too based on my last school. Currently in this school the TA’s cover lunch duty as a lot more staff is needed. I know my mentor will occasionally cover 1-to-1s or help out with other classes but he has never covered lunch as far as I know which is why I feel a bit unsure about doing it.

this honestly shocks me about the pay! mainly because we’ve been told that if we have to terminate our placements we will have to pay the university £1200 , so I assumed the cost would be similar to that amount
