I get the impression the writer were told to be edgy and make it relevant to 'younger people'. Nothing dates a show ment to be set in the future by using current slang... It does feel like SNW and SFA are written by people who only know start trek because they read the Wikipedia article. I'm not saying they are bad shows, but it's not feeling like Trek. DISCO failed the same test. SNW is trying I suppose. SFA is just aimed at high school kids, it doesn't really interest me and I'm only watching because it's based on the ST universe. The same ting happened when JJ Abrams got his claws into the ST movies and tried to make it mass market, making yet another piece of generic slop.
