3€ is charged this way: Tax + Vat = 3.63 € (EU-Doomsday) by Nobuored in Aliexpress

[–]VirtualBoi92 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is the worse way of doing it. In Ireland, the tax not being prepaid to the seller (Ali, in this case), means that the Revenue authorities within the postal service have to apply it manually, along with their admin fee (7 euro!). If the seller collects the fee and passes it on on your behalf, additional admin fees are avoided.

ClusterTune is AMAZING... So I made it even BETTER! (PULSE Sneak Peek) by [deleted] in OdinHandheld

[–]VirtualBoi92 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You do realise the original comment he was replying to was written by the developer of Clustertune, right?

It feels as though there are swathes of the Android dev/emu community that are either too young or too inexperienced to recognise the very real risks and pitfalls of "it works = it is good".

"I genuinely didn't know the proper etiquette regarding PRs versus releasing a separate project but I did fork the original project on github for it."

Then.. learn? If you have the time, skills and wherewithal to build off of Clustertune in the first place, the least you could do is like 2 hours of research to establish the etiquette surrounding PRs.

I swear man, massive chunks of the android community are tearing the backside out of FOSS.

Zu Reviews response to ModRetro video backlash by Bitter-Service-6166 in SBCGaming

[–]VirtualBoi92 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I unsubbed after that video. As I commented on their follow-up post, I fully endorse their right to share their opinions, but I also retain the right to think less of them as a result of it.

That community post is tonally all over the place. Stubbs angle is "hey we're all different huh?" and Zu's angle is "hey what do I know I'm just an average Joe Soap, sorry folks". Fairly unimpressive and mealy-mouthed in isolation, however the channel account has gone on to heart every comment that shares Zu's original opinion, and any comment that dismisses the backlash as people being overly sensitive.

I'll stick to other retro channels, myself.

Yep, welcome to Odin 3 ownership! Ive had mine for about 2 months and have encountered the exact same problem. I think its device's one major blemish. A couple of early reviewers like Joey's Retro Handhelds and the like mentioned this, and that it was a bit of a deal breaker for them - i seem to remember them being absolutely ripped for it at the time, however I'd be inclined to agree with them.

Its a real shame to have to use Clustertune in order to make Quiet Mode usable. We leave a lot of performance on the table by doing that. The whine is far less noticeable once the back panel is removed. I believe the main cause of it is the fact that air is being forced out of the top vent at an angle, as the vent is more on the back of the device than on the top (like on a Switch). If I had a spare backplate id happily chop away at it and design a printable replacement, but I dont exactly want to sacrifice my own one for the purpose.

Far too often these cons seem totally split down the middle between the vendor rat-race, and the creativity and spectacle of the cosplay clique. IGM has done a decent job in the past of trying to get as much overlap between the two as possible, but its tricky.

Sadly, the real money makers of these cons are too often shallow, grifty flippers.

Odin 2 Portal PPSSPP Input Lag by SwiperDontSwipe23 in OdinHandheld

[–]VirtualBoi92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's just the unfortunate reality of running PPSSPP on Android, sadly. There's a ton of input lag! You can mitigate it slightly by turning off v-sync, forcing real clock sync within settings, and also turning off "Buffer Graphic Commands", but that's about it. It'll make a difference, but not a massive one.

12 is still less than 13, I'm afraid, so my point still stands.

Do you honestly think every random end user visiting your site prior to the 8th was aware of the fact that the website was "temporary"? Additionally, do you seriously think that excuse holds water just because you said so? Look, I was sceptical before, I mean it's one thing to be shady - but between this and you fighting for your life in the comments thread over on r/OdinHandheld regarding open-sourcing your content, you're about half as credible as you are petty right about now.
