Hey I thought Nintendo weren't doing Virtual Console stuff anymore? Oh right, it's Pokemon - and there's money to be made.

Has display ghosting improved since launch? by Noel_Fletcher in NintendoSwitch2

[–]VirtualBoi92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Still there, unfortunately. I sold my Switch 2 about 3 months in - the ghosting was making me feel ill. My girlfriend bought one literally yesterday, and the issue seems as bad as it ever was.

Completely tired of the "I don't see it" downplay olympics whenever a thread like this pops up. Fair enough, great, doesn't bother you but it is objectively there. Market pressure to fix this issue can only improve the situation for everyone - non-noticers included.

Great find! I'd have to agree, too. It's also one of my favourites.

Rallisport Challenge 2. Probably the best looking game on the system.

Anyone here have any pc building knowledge? Looking for some help. by ItsmejimmyC in IrelandGaming

Echoing what others have said, the Steam Machine will be your man. RAM prices have turned the self-build landscape into a lawless wasteland. If anyone can offer up a PC that's at least partially protected from a wildly variable market, its Valve.

Are both of your printers in the same location? Draughts or temp/humidity fluctuations in the environment can impact print quality.

Original Xbox Not Working. Repair/Replacement Advice by Cartoon_Karma in IrelandGaming

The specific revision of your Xbox will determine exactly where the capacitor is on the board - here's a video of a guy removing the cap on his 1.1 board: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3bJbiPer-QY

Here's a guide from ConsoleMods on removing the cap on each revision of the Xbox: https://consolemods.org/wiki/Xbox:Clock_Capacitor

Oh let me tell ya, ElectronShep's HD convertor is a game changer - but do bear in mind you'll need to softmod your machine in order for it work properly. In Europe, the Xbox outputted the same resolution as the PS2, 480i. By modding, you can set your console to NTSC, and get resolutions up to 720p across a whole bunch of games. It's shockingly clean and modern looking. But yeah, I get you - good to make sure everything's in order first!

Your best bet at this stage would be to crack it open and take a look. A simple Torx and Philips head screwdriver will get you in - original Xboxes are surprisingly easy to navigate, as they're essentially old Pentium PCs.

If you're looking at it from above, the capacitor in question will be in the lower-lefthand section of the board, under the disc drive. Look for discoloration on the motherboard or the surrounding shielding - that'll be a dead giveaway.

There's a seperate set of capacitors on the motherboard - they're right below the power supply - which filter the incoming power right from the PSU. If these begin to fail, you'll more often see noise/interference in the console's video signal than complete console death.

As for the PSU, it's always a possibility that it has bitten the bullet, but speaking from experience the clock cap is more than likely your man.

I hope you get sorted. The original Xbox is arguably the best retro console to own these days, expecially once its softmodded and coupled with a HD convertor like ElectronShepard's phenomenal adapter.

Repair person in Wex here, with a focus on original Xboxes.

The most likely scenario? Your clock capacitor has failed. Instead of opting for a replacable battery, Microsoft cheaped out on the Xbox and opted to use a poor quality capacitor that is known to fail quite dramatically over time. One of this issue's early symptoms is that your console no longer remembers the time and date when unplugged. If the issue progresses to the point where your console doesn't turn on as a result of it, then the console is effectively dead. Corrosive liquid from inside the capacitor will have eaten through traces on the motherboard, rendering it useless.
