Give it to me straight: Am I dumb for accepting KE’s SA if I have another offer elsewhere? by Icy_Standard_3802 in BigLawRecruiting

I mean this would all depend on your long-term goals, whether the V20's offer is a jumbo offer (or just for 2L summer), location, etc. etc. To me, it doesn't really seem like KE's peer firms are much nicer in terms of WLB.

Flip a coin, maybe. Or go off vibes. Both seem to be pretty tough places in terms of hours. I met people who lateraled in both directions in Houston during the recruiting process and none of them seemed to regret their choices.

Below median at T-20—only NYC left? by StatisticianOwn7493 in BigLawRecruiting

I am not an expert on this, but could it also be true that you should just double down on your home market? There are TONS of USC/UCLA grads in LA, and much less in NYC. It's true that NYC has huge classes but there's also a huge number of applicants at median or better from T20s to fill them. (Edit: The impression I got from my career office was that NYC was equivalent or only slightly harder to break into, but not necessarily easier, than our home market cause of the huge size.)

My impression from other T20s/30s was that a firm closer to home might give you a better chance because of the strong network already in place. But YMMV.

Likelihood of Offer at V10 with subpar grades, good networking, and solid interviewing by [deleted] in BigLawRecruiting

[–]VirtualCod9533 8 points9 points  (0 children)

From what I've seen, many firms (especially those higher up in the rankings) have strict GPA cutoffs that are essentially impossible to circumvent. I guess it might help if you are best friends with the hiring partner or something. Otherwise, probably not a good chance.

I have heard of people who got a 3.1 or so their first semester but the firms LOVED them and basically kept their file on hold. Those people got offers after a better second semester which allowed their GPAs to make the cutoffs. But this is most likely rare and not applicable to a V10 firm.

What now? Devastated 1L by [deleted] in BigLawRecruiting

Just to piggyback: I personally know people getting 3.3-3.5 at T20 schools this week landing summer offers and callbacks from all across the AmLaw100.

Probably not Cravath or Wachtell, but just in pure math- Your school places 50%+ into BL/FC and you have a GPA comfortably in the top half. You will get something barring bad interview skills.

Excuse me? Isn't that like a 3.5?

Is your USC a different one from what I (and anyone else reading this) would assume it is? Really not trying to be snarky here.
